I honestly don't get what people are complaining about with this one. It looks like a perfect upgrade of the original movie (which has one of the best stories of the Disney Renaissance, but one of the weaker executions).

But some people apparently want the return of 90's era Eddie Murphy... (What?!)
And some people are upset that it's not filmed in Mandarin... (WHAT?!)
And some of those same people still want it to have the same cheesy musical numbers.
(I mean... Harvey Fierstein doing a Broadway number ain't exactly accurate to the Han Dynasty, folks.)

Disney's Mulan was always one of the more forced Disneyfications. I adore the movie in many ways, but it's a real mess. But this movie looks like it's pulling back on the Disney bells and whistles to let the original essence of the story play out (to maximum 21st century resonance) while still keeping musical cues for the sake of nostalgia.

In short, this looks like everything the Beauty and the Beast remake wasn't. An organic and timely remake that looks to earnestly improve on the original rather than merely capitalizing on it.

@Spock0Clock - while I agree on everything you said, we'll have to wait and see. This is just a trailer, movie could be better or worse

@Spock0Clock - A lot of the push back I've seen comes from the lead actress's tweat supporting the police in Hong Kong.

@Benjamitesandwich - That is a totally legitimate criticism of the actress as a person, but not really related to whether the movie is good or not.

@Legendaddy - Absolutely. The movie will stand or fall on the film itself, not on how well conceived I happen to think it is based on its trailers.

Why do we need screenshot articles?

@Necropolitan - I'm surprised there's no article about Joker & Watchmen both being awarded at the AFI awards, considering it's a pretty big institution, but we have one on screen-caps of the Mulan trailer. Unless I missed it?

I feel like I just watched the whole movie and the trailer wasn’t even released.

This is the first Disney live action remake I’m actually excited for. Love everything about it. Love that they kept Mulan’s song. I got chills.
