It sounds like Hugh Jackman (Logan) will soon be trading in one set of claws for another as Omega Underground has just learned, ahead of Disney's Live-Action Films Panel, that the Academy Award-nominated actor has signed on to voice Simba's evil uncle Scar in Jon Favreau's upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King.

Unfortunately, no confirmation was provided by Disney at their panel, so take this news with a grain of salt for the time being.

If a deal closes, he would take over the role from Jeremy Irons, who brought the character to life in the original 1994 animated classic, and would join a cast that already features Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogen as Pumba, and John Oliver as Zazu.

Favreau is helming with a script from Jeff Nathanson ( Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales). Production is reportedly underway and is expected to wrap sometime in September.

The first logo for the film was also revealed as part of Disney's full upcoming slate. Check it out below:
