Disney's monumental year shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, and now, Fandango is reporting that presales for Jon Favreau's hotly-awaited The Lion King are currently outpacing all other Disney remakes and are also the second-best of the 2019 calendar year, behind only Marvel's Avengers: Endgame.

The film is now the record-holder for best first day presales for a traditional Disney release (not including Marvel or Star Wars), and is pacing well ahead of 2017's Emma Watson/Dan Stevens-starrer Beauty and the Beast at the same point in its sales cycle. It's also well on its way to becoming the second-best advance ticket-seller of the year, following Marvel's aforementioned blockbuster.

According to a Fandango survey of more than 1,000 The Lion King ticket-buyers:
  • 97% are fans of the original 1994 movie.
  • 95% are excited to see how The Lion King incorporates the original film’s iconic soundtrack.
  • 82% are fans of the voice cast.
  • 73% are fans of Disney’s recent adaptations.
  • 41% have seen The Lion King on stage.

@dracula - I don't know. I kind of would like the first film to stand on its own. Once Simba is king where else does the story go?

@dracula - I’d rather they pull out an original story kinda like what they would do for an Aladdin sequel. I’m sure there will be a sequel bc Disney will definitely cash in if this movie breaks a billion which is all but guaranteed

Why are they making these live action remakes!? Nobody is asking for them!

Oh wait the presales are amazing? The other ones have made billions of dollars? They had good word of mouth and long legs? Bah! Who cares about facts. If I don’t want something that means no one does and even if they do they shouldn’t be able to have it!
