THE MANDALORIAN Director Bryce Dallas Howard To Helm Female-Led FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR Reboot

Bryce Dallas Howard, who helmed two episodes of The Mandalorian, is set to return to Disney+ to direct a female-led reboot of classic '80s children's adventure movie, Flight of the Navigator.

A Flight of the Navigator reboot is moving forward at Disney, and Bryce Dallas Howard has signed on to helm the project.

The original movie was released back in 1986, and followed a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by a UFO and reappears eight years later at the exact same age and with no memories of what happened. It was a modest success, but never really achieved the same classic status as the likes of E.T. or The Neverending Story. It has developed a cult following over the years, however.

This new take on the story will feature a female protagonist, but nobody has been cast in the role yet. The reboot is being developed for Disney+, with John Swartz, Howard’s partner at production company Nine Muses, and Justin Springer on board as producers.

Howard is, of course, best known for her work in front of the camera, but she has begun to take on more directorial gigs of late. She started out with shorts and documentaries, before taking the helm of two episodes of The Mandalorian, and also directed at least one instalment of the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett. Flight of the Navigator will be her first non-documentary feature.

Howard is set to reprise the role of Clair Dearing for Jurassic World: Dominion, which hits theaters next year.
