BOX OFFICE: DOCTOR STRANGE Passed MAN OF STEEL's Worldwide Haul This Weekend
Doctor Strange may not have been the runaway success that Guardians of the Galaxy unexpectedly proved to be, but for the first instalment of a franchise featuring a character 90% of people had probably never heard of, the movie has been a huge critical and commercial hit. Despite the Blu-ray release being right around the corner, it's still making money in Japan, leading it to a big benchmark.
One of the world's most iconic superheroes in the form of Superman has proved to be no match for Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme thanks to a very interesting development at the worldwide box office today...
That is $669.7 million worldwide (after another $2.1 million this weekend, taking its total in Japan to $9.5 million), and while it may not sound like a big deal, that figure means it's passed Man of Steel's $668 million. So, yeah, the Sorcerer Supreme just beat Superman, a bona fide pop culture icon!
As of right now, Doctor Strange is the sixth biggest superhero origin story of all-time, but don't feel too bad for Warner Bros. and the DC Films Universe as Suicide Squad's $745 million cume is still a big win for them!
