Is this the same Balder from the Blader's Gate games? I've not heard much else of the name Blader.
Origame

@TheVandalore - he's a figure in Norse mythology. Another son of Odin. He's known for being immune to death, and the only thing that can kill him is mistletoe.
TheVandalore
TheVandalore - 10/4/2022, 11:43 AM
@Origame - oh I knew that. Well, i should say I knew he was a Norse mythology character like Thor. Didn't know they were brothers or the mistletoe thing.

But it's been ages since I heard of the Balder's Gate games and this reminded those existed and was just wondering if those games were talking about the same Norse Balder. I'm not even sure if I played Balders Gate but I thought it had its own original mythology that wasn't based on Norse.

@TheVandalore - Baldur’s Gate is a Dungeons & Dragons game. It takes place in the Forgotten Realms setting most D&D campaigns are set in. In that setting Baldur’s Gate is a city. I’m not sure who the titular Baldur originally was. I’m guessing the founder of the city. The Forgotten Realms setting itself is heavily based on Tolkien’s Middle-Earth setting which itself was inspired by Norse mythology, so the Baldur name probably does come from there, but I don’t believe it’s meant to be the same character.

@BloopBlorp2 - I knew we had a user like you. I was waiting for you. Thank you. I was gonna say I thought the Balders games were DnD games, or Everquest or something that had its own lore.

I’m glad they didn’t make Balder a chump that would be killed off by Scarlet Witch.

That's actually really cool! No idea how they'd be able to introduce Balder into the MCU at this stage unless they either go down the "long lost sibling" route again (having already done that with Hela) albeit this time presumably not as a villain, or they just make him another Asgardian warrior/Norse God who's unrelated to Thor.

Or maybe they could go down the post-Ragnarok route of exploring the cyclical lives of the Gods by revealing that Balder had died before the first Thor movie, and then introduce a reincarnated version of the character in the present day (could also tie into L&T post credit scene with Heimdall and Jane in Valhalla)

Not entirely sure how they'd make sense of Daniel Craig playing Chris Hemsworth's younger brother but who knows 🤷

AC1 - 10/4/2022, 12:22 PM
@AC1 - Actually seeing a lot of comments saying Daniel Craig should play Magneto instead and... I don't hate the idea! Just keep him as a WWII survivor though, his Holocaust backstory is integral imo and considering this is a franchise where characters have all sorts of powers and abilities there are plenty of ways to justify Magneto still looking young, whether it's just that his powers slow his aging... or perhaps that someone with reality warping powers made him younger... an extremely traumatised, incredibly powerful magic-wielding daughter, perhaps?

SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 10/4/2022, 4:08 PM
@AC1 - I mean Hela mentioned in Ragnarok that Odin was once relentless and unforgiving. And then she goes on to explain to Thor that Odin and Hela we're the ones who took the gold from different realms. And then Odin outgrew his vicious conquest and locked Hela away because that's all she knew. So they could explain that Odin had Baldur and Hela from different women but when he fell for Frigga, everything changed and he grew a heart and then had Thor. But prior to that he banished Baldur and Hela away to start fresh.
