Earlier this year, Sir Patrick Stewart confirmed that he had spoken to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about reprising the role of Charles Xavier. The Professor X actor strongly hinted that the way his story ended in Logan led to him turning the offer down, but we've since heard that Stewart will cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - possibly to fight the Scarlet Witch!
What that means for the introduction of mutants in the MCU is another matter entirely, but the internet is getting into quite the frenzy today over an alleged leaked pre-vis shot from the sequel.
Before we discuss what we see here, many of you will no doubt be quick to argue that this looks like a video game or action figure; you're not wrong, but as these pre-vis for Avengers: Age of Ultron makes clear, that's often the case during this stage in the visual effects process.
As for the supposed leak, we see a de-aged Stewart in Professor X's classic wheelchair from the comics. That's an iconic piece of imagery to see in live-action, but we're definitely taking this with a whole heap of salt until hearing otherwise. Remember, though, Xavier is rumored to be part of an Illuminati team which also consists of Captain Carter, Balder the Brave, Monica Rambeau, and Mordo.
Is this real? We don't know. There's certainly an argument to be made on both sides, but we thought you'd be interested in checking it our for yourselves!
