Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Elizabeth Olsen has revealed that Marvel Studios and Sam Raimi are setting out to make the scariest MCU movie to date with the highly anticipated sequel...

Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson was supposed to helm Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but parted ways with Marvel Studios over "creative differences." Rumour has it he hoped to make a full-blown horror movie with Nightmare as the lead villain, but with the MCU moving on to exploring the Multiverse, that clearly wasn't going to work.

Sam Raimi being at the helm of the movie certainly feels like a sign we could be getting some horror vibes, and while we're anticipating visiting other realities, a big bad like Shuma Gorath opens the door to a scarier feel.

During a recent interview, WandaVision star (and Emmy nominee) Elizabeth Olsen opened up on reprising the role of the Scarlet Witch in the sequel. "It was really hard. Sam Raimi is lovely, and I got to learn a lot from him. It was odd going from WandaVision and bringing this character to a different film that felt more based in the Marvel films."

"I felt like I was putting on old shoes. It’s a very scary movie," she teased. "It’s old Sam Raimi. They’re trying to create the scariest Marvel movie. So there’s that!"

It sounds like we're in store for something really special with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but more details are likely a long way off. We may, however, get a glimpse at what's to come when the Sorcerer Supreme makes his presence felt in Spider-Man: No Way Home this December.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released in theaters on March 25, 2022.

Only way marvel can make a scary movie is if there is no fight scenes. Just pure terror and psychological scares. None of the blasts or webs from hands and especially the colorful costumes. Until then, no marvel movie will truly be scary.

@Mrtoke - scale back on the cgi and go practical.

@Mrtoke - and in my opinion, it’ll work better with very few jump scares. Like, five at most

@Mrtoke - Marvel really needs to scale back on the CGI in general, but I could never see them going fully practical – not even for Sam Raimi.

@generictheeric - they could make a movie with two people just sitting and talking and they’ll somehow shoehorn in some cgi

@generictheeric - they just love their CGI 3rd act

@Mrtoke - if there is any brand of horror that could be considered Disney Horror, it would be Sam Raimis brand of slap stick horror. Just tone down the blood and gore then dial the camera zooms and twitchy body movements up to 11 and Sam is the man for this job.

I mean, it absolutely won’t actually be scary. No way is Disney releasing a superhero movie that’s scary. It’ll just be more creepy while still being child-friendly.

I think this film being hyped as scary could potentially damage it if audiences go in expecting basically a superhero horror film and come away realising it’s not, so I imagine everyone who involved who keeps calling it scary will start to backpedal closer to release date; making awareness of this film via word of mouth and hype of something radically different is great, but Disney won’t want audiences to feel tricked or misled and receive backlash for it

I don't think it will actually be scary. But i do think it will be incredible. In Raimi we trust.

I lost track of all the rumours going around in the last 12 months, was there ever anyone saying that Tobey would be in MoM? Surely he has to be. Raimi loves cameos anyway and that one is the peak.

I mean it’s all relative isn’t it? Scariest Marvel movie wouldn’t really need to be scary at all. They havnt done anything scary up to this point. I feel like if they wanted to actually get scary though they’d hold that for Blade

@Twenty23Three - "It's all relative..." is one of my favorite expressions. That statement is loaded with so much truth.

I mean scariest marvel movie isn't saying much. But having Raimi at the helm may give Olsen's comments some legitimacy.
I'll believe it when I see it.

Marvel scariest movie? It'll be scary by Disney standards. Like Black Widow you know where Pugh brutally gutted that woman near the start and you see no blood, just a wet patch.

Actually both Black Widow's suffered no injuries, like they had Adamantium bones. Even when Natasha got punched in the face five times in the face by a man no psyhical injuries on her face at all.

Really weird, because the normal wise sages of the internet told me repeatedly that Derrickson left because he wanted to make a scary movie and Feige wouldn't let him
