Following today's teaser trailer, Marvel Studios has released some new official stills for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and one of them seemingly features Rachel McAdams as Clea!

Marvel Studios officially released the first teaser trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness today, and we now have four new promo stills to accompany it.

Though three of these images are basically just screenshots from the trailer, one of 'em gives us a closer look at the two characters standing behind Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) as he steps through that doorway. To his left stands Xochitl Gomez' America Chavez, while the woman on his right appears to be played by Rachel McAdams - but that doesn't look at all like Christine Palmer!

Strange's old flame can be seen getting married at an earlier point in the teaser, and this shot has led to speculation that Clea will be introduced in the sequel as a Christine Variant.

In the comics, Clea was a disciple and lover of the Master of the Mystic Arts, and currently serves as the Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension. There have been rumors that the character would appear in Doctor Strange 2, and while this mysterious individual may not turn out to be Clea (maybe Christine simply updated her look?), it does seem like a pretty solid theory.

Check out the new stills below and let us know what you think.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6, 2022.

That could be interesting. McAdams wasn’t gonna return to do absolutely nothing again.

@BlackBeltJones - My theory is that they originally wanted to cast another actress in the role of Clea. If I recally correctly, they reached out to Charlize Theron and Lady Gaga for an unspecified role in the movie (which I assume was Clea). And I think after both declined and after the movie got pushed back, they came up with the idea "hey we have a great actress we weren't planning on going to use, why not make her a Clea variant".

McAdams being Clea would make me so damn happy.

She was great in the role of Palmer, but I definitely wanted her to be way more going forward into the MCU as she's one of my favorite actresses.

I really hope it's a thing.

@Menks123 -
McAdams as Miss Cleo even better

I kinda wish they had waited longer with their next big event movies. Would have liked to see a smaller scale Spider-Man movie and Strange focused solo movie first before they dive into that.

But enjoying it anyway!

I need Wanda to design a costume for Matt. Really digging that red in hers.

I'll go ahead and start the speculate-train that Bruce Campbell is going to voice Shuma Gorath.

I rather see Palmer just be an identity Clea took up rather than being a variant, but still prefer it the most if both are seperate characters

It's crazy to think that we're just now getting the Doctor Strange sequel 6 years later. I know he's had plenty of screen time in between, but still.

Yeah, she's using some type of costume and it's seem to be purple-ish.
They probaly changed her hair to red, because Christine is already blond.

There was no need to downgrade Wanda's costume.

The footage we've seen gave me a warm-fuzzy feeling, simply because something inside me just recognised Raimi behind the camera. Dude's got style. I hope the movie delivers.

The corruption of Wanda’s costume is so visually interesting- her crown no longer has a black base which makes it look more fragile and twisted, her black boots and trousers are now dark red, the texture on her chest piece now looks ridged and broken, the black on the sleeves are probably the most striking visual change, as well as the blackening of her fingers (just like Agatha’s).

Such simple changes showing how the character isn’t quite stable and is embracing darkness

Bit of a nitpick but I still wouldve liked a bigger, more defined tiara. Regardless tjo this is def one of the best comicbook costumes imo.

@aurorsand146 - her stupid tiara doesn’t match comic either if anyone going to nitpick I like how she look in movies without it

@dragon316 - I don’t get that comment, while there can be bad CGI, a movie being CGI doesn’t make it good or bad.
It is just a tool to create a director’s vision just like a practical effect.

HeeroG - 12/22/2021, 7:03 PM
@dragon316 - How do you thought they would make magic, cosmic and multiversal shit work without using CGI? With paper mache and glue?

I remember Marvel diminished Rosario Dawson's role as Night Nurse in the Netflix shows so that Christine Palmer could take on the mantle. If the character is no longer important to the MCU, I guess it was for no reason then?
