5 Things I want to see in Iron Man 3

With the Armoured Avenger's third solo outing just a few months away, these are a few things I am hoping to see.

Fresh from the events of "Marvel's The Avengers", Robert Downey Jnr's Tony Stark/Iron Man is up for his third solo outing. Not much is known about the plot other than its Loosely based on Warren Ellis' Extremis and that The Mandarin is the big bad. Here are five things I want to see in Iron Man 3.

In the comics, an alien ship powered by 10 mystical rings crash lands. Mandarin stumbles upon the vessels wreckage and takes the 10 rings. He then discovers each ring has a specific power and masters each of them. After mastering the rings he begins to take over nearby villages and then sets his eyes on China then the world. For those of you who dont know what the ring's powers are, they are:

[1] Ice Blast
[2] Fire Blast
[3] Mental Intensifier (gives him telepathy, allowing him to create illusions, read minds, and control minds.)
[4] Electro Blast
[5] White Light (ability to manipulate electromagnetic energy to control machines, gravity and teleportation)
[6] Black Light (control darkness)
[7] Disintegration ray
[8] Vortex (control all forms of gas, allows him to fly)
[9] Sonic Blast
[10] Allows The Mandarin to control molecules, giving him the ability of telekinesis, creation, and controling his and other people's bodies for shapeshifting, streching, and particle manipulation.

Now, Im going to go out on a limb here and say I doubt Marvel will go down that road for Mandarin's origin and abilities. I believe the rings we see him wear in the Iron Man 3 trailer are just symbolic for the different branches of his terrorist organisation. I hope I am wrong though as I'd love to see them have some form of function.

In Matt Fraction's run on The Invincible Iron Man, We see Ezekiel Stane bringing Stark Industries to its knees by crippling the 4 major facilities. He strikes at the same time and as Tony cant be everywhere at once he sends out remote controlled suits (sound familiar?). I would love to this see on the big screen. A desperate fight against time, all across the world. It would fit into "techno thriller". It also would make sense as Stark Tower was just the first. If you paid attention you would know that Pepper was working on the zoning for the "next three buildings". If Mandarin is going to attack every aspect of his personal life, this would be a good way to go about it.

In Warren Ellis' Extremis, Tony uses Extremis to save his life. He programs Extremis to directly link the Iron Man suit into his body. The process forms a sort of cocoon state where the "program is uploaded to the hard drive". The process could mean life or death. I think the movie needs to ditch the cocoon state and go down the clinically dead road. Having him die on the table while the process upgrades his body would create a really great scene. The gravity of using Extremis needs to be a priority.

Jon Favreau has given us some truly great scenes between Tony & Rhodey. Rhodey's friendship has been tested but I feel an ultimatum is needed in this latest instalment. To be put in a position that questions his devotion to the Air Force. I feel the Mandarin will be pulling the government's strings and they will ask Rhodey to do something he just wont be able to do. Also, some of the famous Shane Black back and forth would be welcome.

Now Im not saying he should hang up his rocket boots and become a recluse for 8 years. And I know that Iron Man 2 could have done this with both the half-assed "demon in a Bottle" storyline and the Palladium poisoning but he needs to feel the consequences for his actions (pre-kidnapped-tony and New York perhaps) Every aspect of his personal life is under fire so I'd like a period of depression or something of the like. It could be done through Flash backs to Yinsen in the cave to have him question himself and his belief in what he does. "Does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?"

If you enjoyed reading this dont forget to give it a thumbs up and let me know what you think in the usual place. Thanks guys.
