FAN (RE)CAST: Wanted by JoshW

Here are my choices for who I’d like to see star in a proper adaptation of Mark Millar and J. G. Jones’ Wanted! Included in the cast are all of the main characters ranging from The Killer, Fox, Mister Rictus, The Future and many more!

JoshW: I have to admit that I’ve never seen the movie and only read the graphic novel for the first time a few days ago (and a couple of times again since then) Quite honestly, I thought it was excellent but just reading the reviews and seeing the trailer for the movie adaptation showed me that they’re very, very different! So, here is how I would have done things with a cast that I think is far more faithful to the comic book series! Although I don’t normally include the reasons why I’ve made a casting choice, I have this time as I know that some of these characters may have already been cast in the movie and I thought it was important to let you know why I would have done things differently! Anyway, enough talk - enjoy the cast!!!

"Wesley Gibson is one of life's losers. His job sucks; his girlfriend's cheating on him; his life's going nowhere. Then he finds out everything he believed about his life was a lie...For Wesley is actually the son of the Killer, the world's most deadly assassin! Now the Fox - his father's former lover - offers to train Wesley as the new Killer and bring him into a powerful society of super-villains. But does Wesley really have what it takes? And can he avoid his father's fate when a coup inside the society puts him in the firing line? Superstar creators Mark Millar and J. G. Jones present an explosive tale of action, villainy, and good old-fashioned sex and violence!"

Chris Evans as Wesley Gibson/The Killer

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Though he has no real super powers, The Killer is able (and willing) to kill anyone. He mentions late in the story arc that his power is simply being an expert at "stopping people breathing."

Yes, I’d love to see Chris Evans play Captain America but this is a role that’s just as, if not more, perfect for him! He has the right look and attitude for the character and I have no problem imagining him pulling off the darker aspects of Gibson’s personality!

ALLIES

Rosario Dawson as Fox

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Fox is one of the deadliest killers in the world. The only things she cares about are sex, money and violence. She was the original Killer's sex buddy and when he died she moved on to his son.

A brilliant actress who really showed off her acting skills especially in the movies I’ve listed below, I really think that this is a role she’d excel in! She looks the part and if that wasn’t enough, she’s even a huge comic book fan co-creating the series, Occult Crimes Taskforce in 2007!

As Seen In…

Eagle Eye
Seven Pounds
Sin City

Eric Stonestreet as Doll-Master

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Doll-Master is the nicest villain in the Fraternity. He makes little dolls that do his dirty work for him as well as other deadly gadgets.

A likeable actor who’s recently become known for his role in Modern Family, I wondered if he was too likeable too play the pleasant yet sinister Doll-Master. However, after looking at a clip of him in Nip/Tuck where he played a child killer, I’m convinced he could pull it off.

As Seen In…

Bones
Modern Family
Nip/Tuck

Dominic Monaghan as Imp

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Imp is a 7-Dimensional creature with the power to unfold reality. He rewrote history to make it so superheroes had never existed.

There are a number of reasons I cast Monaghan in this role and oddly enough, the first is that he actually looks the part! However, the fact that he’s a brilliant actor is my biggest influence and I have no trouble believing that with the help of some CGI, he could really do something amazing with Imp!

As Seen In…

FlashForward
Lost
X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Jason Isaacs as The Professor

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The Professor is the smartest man in most universes and just happens to be evil as well.

He can definitely pull off playing and evil and creepy character but I know what you’re thinking. He’s too young! However, if you look at the picture above he does actually look the part and with the help of some make-up I can really see him bringing The Professor to life on the big screen.

As Seen In…

Black Hawk Down
Harry Potter Series
The West Wing

Steve Austin as Fuckwit

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Fuckwit is the mentally dense bodyguard of the Professor who is the physical equivalent of Superman but the mental equivalent of an infant.

I know that some will think I’m taking the piss casting a wrestler as a character like this but after recently seeing Austin in Chuck and with his upcoming role in The Expendables, I think he could pull off playing both the physical and slightly more emotional side of Fuckwit.

As Seen In…

Chuck
The Condemned
WWE

ENEMIES

Hugo Weaving as Mr. Rictus

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Mr. Rictus is one of the super villains that rid the earth of heroes and took over world. He is a man with no conscience and kills for pleasure.

Yes, it’s rumoured that Evans will play Cap and Weaving will play the Red Skull but until we hear something official, I cant think of anyone better for either role. Age isn’t really a problem as Weaving would be heavily made up while the creepy voice that he best displayed in The Matrix was what I heard while reading the graphic novel.

As Seen In…

The Matrix Trilogy
The Wolfman
V for Vendetta

Michael Rapaport as (the voice of) Shithead

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Shithead is a shape-shifter made of…shit. He can alter his density and appearance as the situation demands.

Although he’d only be providing his voice, I think Rapaport would really nail the personality of this character. A brilliant comedic actor, he’d nail that side of Shithead while Prison Break showed that he can play an evil bastard just as well.

As Seen In…

Hitch
My Name Is Earl
Prison Break

Tahmoh Penikett as The Future

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The Future is the Nazi bastard that took over Europe when all the superheroes were destroyed.

He may not be that well known but his roles in the below TV shows have really display what a talented actor he is. His role in Dollhouse showed me he can handle playing a character with more than just one side to them and with a shaved head, he’d look perfect for the role.

As Seen In…

Battlestar Galactica
Dollhouse
Smallville

Evan Rachel Wood as Deadly Nightshade

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A deadly yet beautiful assassin who's powers focus around plants. Part of Mister Rictus gang.

A talented young actress, I think that she’d do a great job with a creepy character like this and although it’s not the biggest role in the movie I think that Wood would deliver a stand out performance while the fact she looks perfect for the role is a bonus.

As Seen In…

Thirteen
True Blood
The Wrestler

Gary Oldman as (the voice/likeness of) Sucker

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Sucker is a super villain that can steal the powers of others for exactly 24 hours.

Oldman is an amazing actor who doesn’t get to show his villainous side enough for my liking. Providing the look and voice of this character, I think that he’d be perfect as his excellent acting in the Batman movies has shown as well as his great voice work in videogames like Call of Duty.

As Seen In…

Call of Duty: World at War
The Book of Eli
The Dark Knight

Paul Rudd as Johnny Two Dicks

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Johnny Two Dicks is a henchmen of Mister Rictus. he has no super-powers other than having two penises, one of which talks to him.

The guys is one of my favourite actors and a man with a talking penis surely deserves someone who can really deliver the laughs in the few short scenes he’s in without it being over the top or cheesy.

OTHERS

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as The Original Killer

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The world’s deadliest assassin is dead but he passed on his legacy, and his unerring aim and killer instinct, to his illegitimate son Wesley Gibson.

I know I’ve cast Morgan in a fair few comic book roles now (Hercules, The Thing) but this is yet another part that I think he’d be perfect for! A combination of his performances in Watchmen and Supernatural are great examples of him playing a similar character and as for looks, I couldn’t find anyone else who fits so well!

As Seen In…

Grey’s Anatomy
Supernatural
Watchmen

Forest Whitaker as Adam One

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The very first human, who is an immortal, and the sole ruler of Africa.

What is there to say? He both looks the part and the man is an amazing actor! Although this is a fairly small part he would really nail a character like this as can be seen by his Oscar winning performance in The Last King of Scotland.

As Seen In…

The Last King of Scotland
The Shield
Vantage Point

Hiroyuki Sanada as The Emperor

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The Emperor is a Chinese crime lord as well as the ruler of Asia and a member of the Council of Five.

An actor who’s probably better known in Japan than anywhere else, he’s recently come to the attention of a wider audience for his brilliant performances in the movies below. He looks the part and has the right sort of creepy intenseness (as seen in Lost) for this character.
