Hey all,
Sorry I'm kind of late with this, been meaning to put up a new fancast for about a week or so. Since I've been reading the new Daredevil comic line quite a bit lately, I decided to have my next fancast as DD. This won't be for David Slade's upcoming reboot, however. Instead, it'll be set in the MCU, so I'll be including a handful of MCU regulars at the end.
Matt Murdock/Daredevil - Taylor Kitsch (seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Snakes On A Plane, and John Carter)
For me, Daredevil is a very tricky character to cast. I was gonna cast Michael C. Hall since I think he’s the best actor for the role, but since every other cast has him as Mr. Murdock, I didn’t want to rehash an obviously popular casting choice. After some searching, I thought Gambit himself would be a pretty good Daredevil. He wasn’t bad in
Wolverine, and I’m looking forward to seeing him in
John Carter and
Battleship next year. But if he were to ever play another comic character, I’d enjoy seeing him as DD.
Others I considered: Garrett Hedlund, Michael C. Hall, Alexander Skarsgard, Jason Statham, Matt Damon
Elektra - Eliza Dushku (
seen in Big Bang Theory, White Collar, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer)
I was hesitant in using Dushku again in a fancast so soon (I recently had her in my
G.I. Joe fancast), but I found it hard to find someone else who’d be as good of a choice (Dushku isn’t as overused as MCH in Daredevil fancasts, otherwise I’d definitely pick someone else). She can kick butt while still being hot, which is something that I think is necessary for Elektra.
Others I considered: Taylor Cole, Jessica Alba
Bullseye - Jason Statham (
seen in The Expendables, Death Race, and the Transporter series)
A very popular choice, I know. Statham has expressed interest in playing Daredevil a few years ago, but I think we can all agree that he’s much more suited for the villainous Bullseye. Anyone who’s seen a Statham film has seen ‘em all - that is, he’s VERY experienced in the action film genre. Now if he can just add a comic book film or two to his resume... Also, I don't care for the Bullseye suit used in the comics. For another film version of the character, I'd like an alagram of the comic suit and the way he looked in the 2003
Daredevil flick.
Others I considered: None
Kingpin - Bob Hoskins (
seen in Nixon, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Doomsday)
Hoskins is a popular choice for Penguin, but I better see him as Daredevil’s arch nemesis. I also wanted to use someone who isn't used often (like John Goodman). Hoskins is a pretty good actor, and one who I can see redeem the character (no offense against Michael Clarke Duncan, he was decent with what he was given).
Others I considered: John Goodman, Alfred Molina
The Owl - Liev Schreiber (
seen in Kate & Leopold, Salt, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine)
After Schreiber’s excellent performance as Sabretooth in
Wolverine, he was literally the first person I thought of for Owl. Schreiber definitely knows how to play villains well, and I can see him doing good things with Owl.
Others I considered: None
Karen Page - Adrianne Palicki (
seen in Wonder Woman, Friday Night Lights, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation)
I wanted to cast Kristen Bell, but I didn’t want to go with a choice that’s so obvious. I’ve only seen Palicki in the
Wonder Woman pilot (as mediocre as it was, I thought she was good with what she was given), and I’m looking forward to seeing her in
G.I. Joe 2 next year. If she were to ever play another comic book character, I think she’d be a good Karen Page.
Others I considered: Kristen Bell, Olivia Wilde, Diane Kruger
Ben Urich - Bryan Cranston (
seen in Breaking Bad, Drive, and Contagion)
Cranston is a pretty underrated actor IMO. And while this isn’t the most original casting decision, I think he’d be an awesome Ben Urich in a future
Daredevil film.
Others I considered: Edward Norton
Typhoid Mary - Katee Sackhoff (
seen in Battlestar Galactica, CSI, and Fifteen And Pregnant); Image Courtesy Of
ScreenRant
Sackhoff has expressed interest in this role already, and I don’t see why she wouldn’t do a bad job. I’ve only seen her in a little bit of
Battlestar, but I think she'd be pretty good as Typhoid.
Others I considered: Eliza Dushku
Foggy Nelson - Edward Norton (
seen in The Incredible Hulk, The Illusionist, and Kingdom Of Heaven)
I know Norton has already played a lead character in a comic book film (and doing an excellent job in the process), but I can’t help but feel that Norton would be an awesome Foggy. While Foggy has usually been portrayed as kinda overweight, I don’t think that matters at all. Norton has the acting chops for for 'im.
Others I considered: John Goodman, Bryan Cranston
Mister Fear - voiced by Clancy Brown (
seen in Green Lantern, Batman/Superman: Public Enemies, and Avengers: EMH)
Brown has plenty of experience with voicing CBM characters (especially with villains, such as Lex Luther and Parallax). I can see him doing a fantastic job voicing Mr. Fear, who I think is a pretty underrated villain
Others I considered: Hugo Weaving, Frank Welker
Stick - Edward Asner (
seen in Up, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Elf)
Asner is another one with plenty of experience in the CBM field. He’s voiced Granny Goodness in the DCAU (and
Batman/Superman Apocalypse), J Jonah Jameson in
Spider-Man: TAS, and
Uncle Ben in Spectacular Spider-Man. He’s an excellent voice actor, and I think he can move his transition to live action CBMS well by playing Daredevil’s trainer.
Others I considered: Terrence Stamp
Battlin’ Jack Murdock - Clive Owen (
seen in Killer Elite, Sin City, and Inside Man)
Owen is usually cast as Batman, and while I’d love to see him play an older Dark Knight in the future, I think he’d be a very good Jack Murdock too. The character is essential to the Daredevil story, and if I were to direct a reboot, I would make the development of the relationship between father and son a top priority.
Others I considered: Pierce Bronson
Klaw - Mark Hamill (
seen in Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker, Comic Book: The Movie, and the original Star Wars trilogy)
Hamill already voiced Klaw in
Avengers: EMH, and I enjoyed his performance so much that I think he’d do a good job voicing him in a live action film. I also loved
Daredevil #3, which pitted Klaw against the Man Without Fear, and I'd love to see a similar battle take place in an MCU-set
Daredevil film.
Others I considered: Hugo Weaving, Mark Strong
Maya Lopez/Echo - Taylor Cole (
seen in Heroes, Green Hornet, and NCIS)
Cole may not have been in a lot of films, but she’s got my attention with her (very) small role in
The Green Hornet. A lot of people think she’d be a good Wonder Woman (I've seen her cast as Elektra too), but I can also see her as Echo. She may be best suited for WW, however.
Others I considered: Mary-Louise Parker
Nick Fury - Samuel L. Jackson (
seen in Iron Man, Snakes On A Plane, and Pulp Fiction)
Since this fancast is for a
Daredevil film set in the MCU, an appearance by the head of SHIELD would be inevitable. Regardless of the whole race card debate, Jackson is a fantastic Fury, and I’m always ready to see him in any future Marvel Studios film.
Others I considered: None
Agent Coulson - Clark Gregg (
Seen in Thor, Iron Man, and Mr. Popper’s Penguins)
Coulson is one of my favorite characters in the MCU, and I’m glad that he was created specifically for it. Obviously he’d pop up in a
Daredevil film set in the MCU, but I’d rather he have a smaller role than say, his role in
Thor.
Others I considered: None
Black Widow - Scarlett Johansson (
seen in Iron Man 2, The Prestige, and The Other Boleyn Girl)
If the film rights to Daredevil ever reverted back to Marvel, the relationship between him and Black Widow would have to happen. I’m satisfied with ScarJo’s performance in
Iron Man 2, and while far from perfect I think she’ll improve in
The Avengers, as well as any other future Marvel film she’s in.
Others I considered: None
Well, there's my cast for the Man Without Fear. I think my next fancast will be for a live action
Scooby Doo TV series.
