Who Should "The Avengers" Villains Be?

Who Should "The Avengers" Villains Be?

Should it be an already developed villain, or even a newly created villain for The Avengers to contend with?

I have to admit, The Avengers movie is certainly something that will be a sight to see whether it is a good movie or not. Seeing Iron Man, Captain America and Thor onscreen together for the first time, and possibly even the only time (I doubt but you never know) will single handedly make it a crown jewel.

But I have been trying to figure out something, who in the name of Odin could Earth's Mightiest Heroes face off with? It seems impossible really to have just one villain face off against a team like The Avengers, so I am trying to figure this out, and I think I am preaching to the choir here.

Loki would seem like a great villain, he was the first foe in the comic books that The Avengers had to face off against. In the comics, he took control of the Hulk's mind and turned him into a threat against the team then consisting of Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man and Wasp. Using Loki would be beneficial, as far as thinking about how the character will already be setup in "Thor", and a logical reason of why Thor THE GOD OF THUNDER would join a team of mortals: Help to fight against his brother.

That way Loki and Hulk would work as villains, which would be perfect as far as im concerned. However, rumors have persisted in the past that The Skrulls would be the big threat that Nick Fury has been aware of since "Iron Man" and would need to form a team to fight them off when they invade the Earth. Which makes sense, and certainly it would be a little weird for that NOT to be the big threat since Nick Fury obviously has a reason for assembling The Avengers, and Loki and Hulk is not something that he would know of really, and even if so, why assemble a team for that?

Personally, I beleive it will be one of those couple scenarios. But if not, I think a good villain could be Graviton, who was a villain in the first episode of "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes". The character showed off enough for me to beleive he would make a cool villain visually, but the only thing I dont know of is if he would really matter at all to a live-action film.

Could the villain be created for the movie? That could work maybe, but with so many villains already existed it would seem very unecessary.

the villian should beeeeeee.......THEMSELVES. O_O

No but really I think it should be like Hydra coming back ,like the Red Skull is revived by Loki with the Cosmic Cube. And The Red Skull with Loki taking controll of Banner and maybe the Abomination or Leader and also some Mandroids under Hydras control or even better Ultimo. It would be epic, but a little too much.

I still say thor could beat that gravitron guy easily , he can control massive power thru gravity and thors hammer can absorb any form of energy amplify it and send it back too , he could absorb all the power gravitron could send his way amplify it and nuke him with it .

Well, for what its worth, I still see it as a Loki controlled Hulk being the catalyst (or the first mission) for The Avengers getting together.

And then after that HYDRA. I think them fighting a terrorist organisation with a few superpowered beings in it makes the most sense. Especially if they have managed to get their hands on something incredibly powerful (the cosmic cube???)

Everything I have heard about it so far suggests The Avengers is going to be very Nick Fury/SHIELD centric. So his main nemesis is HYDRA and Captain America: The First Avenger is going to set alot up.

Will we see appearances by Red Skull, Zemo, Strucker, Zola???? I think at least some of them will be there. And if Loki sticks his oar in that they could be very exciting. Other 'villains' in this universe who are still around include The Abomination, Hammer (inprisoned) and The Leader (on the loose). Could they be used in someway?

Skrulls - at this moment - would take a bit of time to set up for a movie audience and don't yet have the emotional cache that HYDRA will have when The Avengers comes out.

All I do know for certain is that news should get pretty exciting around the beginning of next year because thats when all the other parts will start getting cast. :o)))

Hulk/Loki would be great to see but wouldn't fit convincingly into the time frame set up. Like you said, the problem MUST be known to Nick Fury for him to pull the team together in the first place. If Thor was set as the first movie then the Loki/Hulk could work, but the end of Ironman 2 rules this out.

Unless.....

We have a Hulk/Loki movie with Fury clearly a little surprised. He scrambles frantically to get the team together, this will explain why he let's Tony join the team as a fighting member. At the end of the movie we see the team licking their wounds from a fierce battle and congratulating eachother on finally working as a team. And then they are covered in shadow, they look up to see a swarm of Alien spacecraft. Fury pipes up and says something like "ever wonder why I got you guys together?" End credits!

Ron@ I think the timeline isn't a problem. Though you are right - Fury's intial reasons for assembling 'The Avengers' has to be something other that the Loki/Hulk issue as we see him trying to recruit Stark in Ironman 1.

This makes me think that the issue is his old foe HYDRA - and that the reason they will be called The Avengers is so they can avenge the past wrongs of that organisation.

Now - that leads me to suspect that Fury knows something about HYDRA in the present day. Where would he have got that info? From a recently ressuccitated Steve Rogers who took some 'secrets' into hibernation with him. So I am thinking that we will see Captain America alive and well in contemporary earth at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger.

However Ross/Hulk/Loki issue I think will be a reason for the team to get together for the first time - maybe by accident - but discover they don't get on and split straight away.

It's not until the final act of the film that they all want to join together AS A TEAM and fight a common foe.

Just my guess.
