Hollywood's Live-Action DEATH NOTE Film Revived With Adam Wingard

Adam Wingard, director of the critically acclaimed Dan Stevens led "The Guest" has signed on to replace Iron Man 3 director Shane Black as helmer of the live-action Death Note film in development at Warner Bros.

Following Iron Man 3, director Shane Black seemed keen on making a live-action Death Note film for the West.  However, it appears that will not come to pass as Warner Bros. has replaced Black with Adam Wingard. 

Created as a manga, writer  Tsugumi Ohba and illustraor by Takeshi Obata have witnessed their 2003 creation spawn a spinoff manga, anime, anime film and Japanese live-action film.  The story centers around a bright Japanese high school student who randomly discovers a notebook that lets him kill anyone just by writing their name in it. 

Wingard is expected to shoot a horror movie for Lionsgate this Summer before tackling Death Note.

First it has Shane Black attached to it. Then Gus Van Sant. Now this dude. And they still have nothing to show for it.
Maybe it's just as well. I always felt this series would work better as an HBO or BBC tv series.

Season one is probably the most intelligently made anime series I've ever seen. Season two not so much, but on the whole the series is a classic.

You're Next is hands down one of the best horror films I have ever seen and The Guest was surprisingly awesome.

So over rated, i like the show but so many other anime are so much better and deserve a movie so much more.@DeusExSponge, Berserk with del toro makes my pants tight in the front, just one of many anime that deserve more attention than death note. I hate pseudo intellectualism, the show still manages to be good, but it gets so convoluted.

@Chloefornication, netflox would be a fat better home, wonder when they will start love action adapting anime. Could be a huge market if done right, one of my only problems with live action anime adaptations are race issues, they draw their characters with huge eyes then expect us to cast Asians that have no physical charactetistics the character has except sometimes dark hair. Vash the stampede is white, period, but if they did an anime he would be an Asian dude with died hair and contacts, or the Asian community would complain about the white washing of hollywood

A 'Death Parade' style TV series would be something interesting to put a twist on things. The first episode establishes the basics with him finding the Death Note and meeting Ryuk, then we switch perspective every episode after between Light and the cops as they try to track him.

We see the people and how they are beforehand and then we see Light kill them, each time giving slightly more evidence so the police can get closer. As it develops it can establish that the criminals being killed are not always as evil as Light is informed about on the news and sometimes have families or are a victim of circumstance or otherwise making the line between whether Light is good or evil blurred.

Death Note could be a sweet television show if they don't make it some dumb procedural show.

I rather see a Fullmetal Alchemist movie done in the U.S first before Deathnote though

Iron Man 3 was garbage so I'm happy about this. Death Note is, in my opinion, the most accessible manga/anime ever created. It is a series that literally anyone could enjoy. It's so incredibly gripping and suspenseful. Can't wait for this.

Would honestly have prefered Gus Van Sant as the director but Adam Wingard is not a bad choice either..

With them doing a great job with their all you need is kill adaption (Edge of Tomorrow) i am looking forward to this movie.

I hope that someone could get the rights to do a Full Metal Alchemeist or Bleach live action more or show soon. That could be pretty epic

Death Note can lend itself to a Western adaptation so I'm looking forward to this. Ezra Miller would be a perfect L! Can we get Hollywood to do Attack on Titan next?
