After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

I fail to see the logic in why anyone would choose to fight crime with a bow and arrow, no body armor, and specifically no head/face protection. Much less how he hasn't been killed yet. That's logic.

I actually find it more logical that he kills.

KAC

Making him a drug dealer in Starling City makes him a MUCH BETTER character than the flat "Count Vertigo" he is in the comics. And this is coming from a "comic book purist".

If they made him accurate to the comics, he'd be wearing one of this 'masks' to cover his eyes, using stupid weapons like 'boxing-glove arrow' which, while we're being logical here, would have to be shot with enough force and accuracy to knock someone out. There isn't a single bow and arrow setup on the planet that can pull that off. AND it would look stupid. He uses a bow and arrow to kill people, which they were designed to do before we discovered gunpowder. IF we were being accurate to the comics, Oliver Queen would still be a paranoid, conspiracy inspired dick, making Bruce Wayne's public persona look like a gentleman.

I think Oliver avoids helmets and what not because they take away his mobility.

Anyway, three arrows for the win.

"@Super

Comic books are unrealistic,"

That also really applies to the TV version in terms of body armor and protection. He's not exactly all that covered up.

"what they've done is inaccurate to the character. That's all."

We are talking about the same Green Arrow from Mike Grell's run? The same one who put an arrow between Prometheus' eyes? Yeah, this isn't as inaccurate to the character as you'd like to believe.

"It takes greater effort, intelligence and charm to make a character like Vertigo work (YJ did it) than to make him some random cliche drug dealer."

I have to admit, I'm not too fond of the logic behind the deviation in regard to Vertigo. Then again, I see this as an Elseworlds story (this one heavily influenced by Mike Grell's "grounded" run) in the same way Nolan's Batman, or Burton's Batman, or Smallville, or the Flash TV series =were their own mostly self contained interpretation like any other Elseworlds comic that's been published.

I'm willing to see how it plays out on it's own terms. If you're looking for a pristine, exacting reproduction of the comic, you'd probably be happier looking elsewhere (particularly given how much the character has changed in the last 25 years alone).

Kill willy nilly?

Name any person Ollie has killed just for the hell of it in this show and not have a reason. Every person he shoots with an arrow is not him killing them. He has only killed people who have either tried to kill him or have uncovered what he really can do like the kidnappers in the 1st episode or Bertinelli guards in the Huntress episode.

I was there! They revealed some things in the next few episodes, what I can remember at the top of my head are:

-they saved budget money for the finale and that there will be a big battle between Arrow and Merlyn.

-a flashback that DOESN'T take place on the island involving Oliver's black-british stepdad.

-Thea gets some action, and more Colton Haynes. (the producer's mic went out when he discussed more on Roy Harper...maybe he was revealing too many spoilers?)

-ARGUS will have some involvement as well as more action from Deadshot.

@FreakingInt
Naw that is not Walter. Just a random guard or something.

I've been hoping to see more of Oliver's dad and how he came about in Malcolm's plan.

Is Diggle gonna go after Deadshot on his own? Will love to see that. Put Digs back on the streets doing something instead of being Oliver's conscience in the hideout.

I am really enjoying this interpretation of the character. Just seeing his development of what he was on the island all the way up o his presence self is really portrayed very well. Amell does a great hob at playing 2 different characters on the show.

^^adding on

-Felicity will have more scenes outside of the Arrow HQ.

-Producers talk about maybe having an appearance by one of the Justice League...all I know is that it's not Superman.

-They plan to have each season have 1 years worth of flashbacks on the island. Season 5's last flashback will show when Oliver gets rescued.

-I think they said Oliver gets help in Bludhaven......educated guess is Nightwing.

I would love for them to do a whole episode base don Diggle. The character deserves it to put down his brother killer.

I agree Diggle has a history as well. I think if they do an episode centered around him the flashbacks, should be about his past not Oliver's on the Island. it could be a very cool change of pace.

It might not have to knock out an opponent, but taking them down (knocking them off balance) may be sufficient.

Looks like things are gonna come to a head in the last few episodes. Does that mean we'll find out Walter's fate?

@dnno1: You kind of proved my point. You can break glass dishware with it, but what about a human head? Knocking someone off balance would be meaningless unless you were fighting them at point-blank range and could follow that up.

I think it'd be great to see this put to the test on Mythbusters, though. If they proved me completely wrong, at least I'd have smile on my face.
