Guillermo Del Toro Says PACIFIC RIM 2 Is Being Setup For A Third Film Guillermo Del Toro Says PACIFIC RIM 2 Is Being Setup For A Third Film

Pacific Rim pulled in over $400M at the worldwide box office, but only 25% of  that came from the United States of Awesome - the rest was from foreigners that dunk their fries in mayonnaise. Since the film cost so much to make it took Legendary a bit longer than usual to pull the trigger on a green-light for the sequel, but they eventually did. In a recent intervew with Collider, a confident Guillermo del Toro revealed that the next film in the series is being designed to setup a third. He says, “Some of your favorite characters come back, some others don’t because we have decided that we’re going to shoot ambitiously and say ‘Let’s hope we have three movies,’ so some characters come in at the end of the second, hoping that it will ramp up on the third one.” You can watch the interview in the video below.

PACIFIC RIM 2 Will Land In Theaters April 7, 2017

PACIFIC RIM SYNOPSIS - When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Pacific Rim was directed by Guillermo del Toro, from a script written by Travis Beacham. The cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke. Now available on DVD & Blu-ray!

@TheRationalNerd I doubt anyone who went to see Pacific Rim went for the story. I went to be entertained and was gloriously rewarded.

I love PR but come on. It doesn't need any more story. It ended with proper closure.

I tried to like this.... So many times. But the acting & basically everything but the CG & Idris is horrible.

I can't freaking wait!! I hope that they fixed the system so that only one pilot is needed now. Sorta G Gumdam style. I couldn't care less if people hated the first one.

PR was okay. But I'd much rather Hell Boy. I mean come on. It's the superhero faze right now they should really try to cash in on it.

I mean I would see it. And I think a lot of other people would see it coming out and then watch the others and see the new one.

Besides the other films were modest hits right? Plus Hell Boy 3 would be MUCH cheaper than Pacific Rim 2. And probably more profit.

Im not a fan of the first one tbh. I can see why people like it, but big monster movies like that were never my thing. So i doubt i'll see this.

LOL @ nail's teaser and article! I don't know why, but for some reason, I just assume that all the editors on this site aren't from America. Except maybe DCMF.

As for the news, Pacific Rim is a largely forgettable, purely entertaining, yet rather shallow summer blockbuster. While there's some movies that deserve the massive hate they inspire in people...I just don't see how Pacific Rim could possibly be one of them.

It was pure spectacle, and unlike the Transformers movies, it actually knew how to direct, stage, and portray action well. Sequels to Pacific Rim will be harmless enough, and won't be actively damaging or insulting like Bay's stuff. So why not?

Such a dumb, pointless movie. The sequel really should be limited to just the action sequences because there's not much else.

@supermarioworldE

Oh we are sorry. Maybe Del Toro should have thrown in dick and fart jokes, racial stereotypes, dog sodomy, and mind numbingly useless explosions in to keep you entertained ala Micheal Bay huh?
