But I would be fine with Tahir as Mandarin. I mean, they set him up with a connection to Mandarin in the first Iron Man, so why not?

Hawk, he has said its a possibility that his chracater may have been linked to/been The Mandarin , but he never said anything like "At some point, they want to introduce Mandarin into the storyline"..before he was just commenting on what he would have liked to happen. He may still be, but it certainly sounds as if he knows more...

I always thought that it would make sense to see Iron Man 3 before The Avengers - the timeline fits anyway...

Iron Man - 2008
Iron Man 2 - 2010
Iron Man 3 - 2012

If the third movie came out before The Avengers it would also allow them to set everything up ready for that movie!

I say Chow Yun Fat for Mandarin, he has the acting chops and the age/charisma to pull it off...oh and he is Chinese

yeah, i think they should get a chinese guy to be the mandarin. after all, the mandarin is chinese, and the title of mandarin is a chinese thing.

i think it would make the most sense to have the "Ten Rings" organization from IM1 be named after the actual Mandarin. we all know the mandarin has 10 rings that each have a unique power. their organization should be a tribute to him, and The Mandarin should be the big bad.

i wonder if they'll say his rings were salvaged from a crashed alien space ship like in the comics.

haha. Well, since Iron man will be joining a Thunder God in the Avengers, I don't think the alien rings are too much of a stretch..of course, thats a completely different beast when a new director is involved so maybe Fav will want to keep the actual Iron man movies a bit more grounded.

I would be very unhappy if they messed up his origin story. There are two things you don't want to mess with in CBM's: The powers and the origins unless you have to, like in Iron Man.

I think we have seen over and over that to screw up on either one of those is practically instant ticket to mediocrity

Because of the endless debate that ensued yesterday, it is my obligation to point out that the Mandarin must be played by someone of Chinese descent. There are some out there that champion the cause with such ferocity that if any character isn't properly represented by their respective real race, then they'll be up in arms.



Look at Li from the Mummy:ToDE at 00:42. Mandarin? What about Collin Chou at 01:02 on Forbidden Kingdom:

Iron Man 3 will come after the Avengers, there's no way Marvel is going to cluster f**k release dates for strong titles like Iron Man 3. Marvel would have to put Avengers out for the holiday season of 2012 if they had Iron Man 3 come out in May. Avengers is a steamroller of a big summer film, of course Bay will f**k things up with the release of Trnsformers 3. Hopefully the tool spaces the release a month after, or before.

It would definitely make more sense to make the mandarin asian, but just to see him on screen, kicking ass, is enough for me. I really do hope that in IM2 they at least mention him.

sure they would. we're talking about a world with a thunder god. an alien space craft crashing, and the mandarin finding their technology isn't that crazy, really. and i don't think the mandarin even found "rings" in the space craft, he just turned the technology into rings, i could be mistaken about that though.

@ Grif I dont know much about the Mandarins powers but if they turned them into tech or magic i'm sure they would fit but most likely tech would be the best for Iron Man

1. it would be completely stupid if someone of middle eastern decent was running around calling himself the mandarin.

2. in the first iron man, their organization was already called the ten rings, meaning the mandarin more than likely already has the rings. that arab guy didn't have any rings.

in the comics the mandarin found a crashed space ship and he took technology from it. he created 10 rings of power. each ring does something different. fire, ice, disintegration...each ring is its own power. i can't remember what all 10 do though.
