POLL: What Do You Think The Avengers "Leviathan" Is? POLL: What Do You Think The Avengers "Leviathan" Is?

Lots of theories, but no solid proof one way or the other. What do you think the most likely explanation for the mysterious Leviathan in Joss Whedon's Avengers is?

Yesterday Fresh posted an article with some revealing hints as to certain scenes that would be filming on the last day of The Avengers New York shoot. One detail revealed on the map above has caused a bit of a stir. The Leviathan. What the Hell is it?

Well it could be any number of things. But one theory, backed up by a Tweet earlier today, suggest that it is some type of creature. In this case a giant sea monster. That IS what the Leviathan of mythology is after all. But of course we have no definitive proof that this info is on the level. More theories suggest a creature but one more indented in Marvel history. The Dragon known as Fin Fang Foom. We know that director John Favreau placed a Foom Easter egg in Iron Man 2 and wanted to one day use the creature as a movie villain. Reading the descriptions on the map above-"Moves down street", "head comes to rest"- it certainly seems that this thing could be at least some type of living entity. And it is certainly not out of the question that Joss Whedon would use such a beast as he has never shied away from big fantasy elements, including large monsters, before.

But to be honest I'm not buying it. Personally I think that if the Leviathan refers to something that we will even see on film then it is a ship or craft of some kind. Either Alien or perhaps S.H.I.E.L.D related. And yet another theory posed by Fresh is that The Leviathan refers to some type of large camera used by the crew. The "Ultimate Arm" is definitely a piece of camera equipment used for tracking shots.

Anyway, quite a few possibilities. But what do you guys think?

It better be the giant sea monster.

"Nothing on earth is his equal— a creature without fear." -Job 41:33. I'll take it over the Skrulls any day.

It can't be a sea creature controlled by the Atlantians simply because that would give nuck to much satisfaction.

Still, I really hope its a monster and not just a ship.

The Avengers travel into Hell, and meet its gatekeeper, the Leviathan. Hela also appears, I have this movie all figured out.

It'd be awesome if it was Fin Fang Foom, but I doubt it. Probably some Atlantean creature or something Loki found in one of the nine realms.

-Job 41:33 talks about the sea monster that lived during the Biblical days that may be extinct, and the presumed to be Leviathan creature in the Avengers movie is based on the sea monster in the Bible.

I think the Leviathan will be the main weapon for the alien race while the Avengers main weapon could be the Hulk

ALIEN SPACECRAFT.

They used the cryptic word "leviathan" [lowercase, btw, so it's not a name] instead of an obvious word like SPACESHIP. Obviously, they've kept this scene more secret than it really is because they made you idiots go in circle proclaims this to be sea-monster.

Plus "alien gunfire hits cafe" is enough proof that the leviathan is a spacecraft, but it's cool if you live in a fantasy world where creatures all of a sudden carry guns in their bodies.

Wait... You're claiming to know what the creature is because you read it in the Bible? lol... awesome...

Ha, I hope it's not jesus. This action/adventure movie could soon turn into a horror film. I imagine there could be some slight backlash if the Avengers were to kill jesus [frick]in christ, lol.

If it is a sea creature that the Avengers battle it seems like they dispose of rather quick. I for one hope its not. hopefully its a large camera that is used for under water filming or its an under water ship,

@ Destroyer14 I'm just imagining a fight between The Avengers and this monster in Hell, in a similar scene to the fight in jotunhiem in Thor. Except like 10 minutes longer, and better in every way. So epic.

SKOne

As much as I love Namor and think the originally planned storyline with him finding Cap in the ice fragments the Hulk smashed would have been great, he will not be in this movie. It would have been a huge deal and a Comic Con or D23 announcement. I think that the Leviathan is probably a ship of some kind from an alien race Loki encountered.
Helena
Helena - 9/4/2011, 1:10 PM
Mmh, but if it is a ship I wonder if we're going to have a huge [frick]ing battle in the skies between the helicarrier and SHIELD's ships against the alien craft.

Damn, just a small detail about this movie gets me more excited then every leaked pic of DKR so far. Better deliver, Nolan...

It's either a camera or an alien spacecraft. It's not a sea monster, lol.

By the way, everyone who thinks that the Oracle thing in Iron Man 2 was a Namor Easter Egg, it was just product placement to help offset the production costs. The Newspaper clip in Whiplash's workshop about Atlantis was the Easter Egg.
