8 Minutes Of B-Roll Footage From THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES
If you would like a behind-the-scenes look at how director Peter Jackson put together his vision for his final Middle Earth movie, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, then hit the jump to watch eight-minutes of B-roll footage.
Peter Jackson ("King Kong") is about to close the final chapter on his Hobbit trilogy, which may also be our last feature film journey to Middle Earth. Some people think Jackson could try adapting J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion. There is one little problem with that ... he doesn't have the film rights to it; the Tolkien Estate does. Before you go assuming New Line Cinema, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer or WingNut Films could just scoop up the film rights by sending a sizeable amount of cash to the Tolkein Estate, just remember they don't care for Peter Jackson's films. In the past, they have harshly criticized them for turning Tolkien's work into action films that cater to teenagers and young adults. Christopher Tolkien, who helped complete The Silmarillion after his father passed away, told Le Monde, "The commercialization has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing. There is only one solution for me: to turn my head away."
So, try to enjoy The Hobbit: The Battle Of Five Armies, as it may be the last time you see this fantastical world on the big screen. Below, are two videos containing behind-the-scenes footage revealing how Peter Jackson made his third and final Hobbit film.
From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” the third in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.
