BOX OFFICE: DISNEY'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Early Tracking Similar to MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS

Tickets for Disney's Beauty and the Beast started to go on sale earlier this week and it is tracking very similar to Marvel's The Avengers. Do we have another $200 million opener on our way?

Great news for fans of Beauty and the Beast! Tickets went on sale starting on Monday night after the release of the latest trailer and now according to reports, early tracking seems to indicate that the Disney adaptation is tracking very similar to Marvel's The Avengers. This Marvel flick opened to a massive $207.4 million opening weekend. So that means that Disney's Beauty and the Beast could very well open to a similar opening weekend box office gross.

According to Fandango, the trailers for this movie have created lots of buzz among filmgoers of all ages. Let's compare this to another recent family-friendly blockbuster. Disney's Beauty and the Beast has easily beaten Pixar's Finding Dory presales already. That animated movie later went on to make $486 million at the domestic box office. The last live-action Disney flick was The Jungle Book and that went on to make close to $400 million domestic and close to $1 billion worldwide, and that was without all the buzz and trailer records of Beauty and the Beast. The Emma Watson-led film has already sold out hundreds of movie showtimes throughout the nation according to Fandango.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast opens nationwide on March 17 and stars Harry Potter actress Emma Watson and Legion actor Dan Stevens.
