Chris Hemsworth's THE HUNTSMAN Gets A New Director

Universal Pictures has chosen a new director to helm The Huntsman, which is a follow-up to Rupert Sanders 2012 fantasy-adventure film Snow White and the Huntsman. Hit the jump to find out who they selected for the gig.

Schmoes Know scored a nice scoop today, that was later verified by the trades. They reported that the next director of Universal's The Huntsman will be Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. Who?! Wait, I'll get to that. He's replacing Frank Darabont ("Shawshank Redemption"), who last week dropped out of the project. The reason given was "creative differences," but then again that is usual the go-to-line when you exit a project.

As for who Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is, he has been serving as a second unit director and visual effects supervisor on various projects. He did so with Disney's Maleficent and even Rupert Sanders' Snow White and the Huntsman, so he is familiar with the look of the film. He was even nominated for an Oscar based on his work with the film's visual effects. At one point he was supposed to direct Summit's Highlander reboot.

The sequel sends the Huntsman on a quest to find the magic mirror (which has been stolen), forcing him to face not only his past but the evil Snow Queen who’s set on avenging her sister Ravenna’s death. Charlize Theron will return as the villainous Ravenna and Blunt is making a deal to play her sister, the evil Snow Queen.
