While Warner Bros. continues to struggle with its DC Films Universe, the studio is looking to keep the magic of Harry Potter alive with the Fantastic Beasts series. The first instalment was a hit and with at least three more movies planned after The Crimes of Grindelwald is released, it's clear that this franchise is here to stay. Now that the first trailer is online, though, excitement is obviously building!

The teaser is long overdue and features plenty of big reveals about what's to come in the sequel, not to mention nods to the wider wizarding world, all of which are sure to get Harry Potter fans talking.

What you'll find here then is an in-depth look at the first footage from Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, breaking down all the biggest moments and Easter Eggs you need to see. A Familiar Location

The trailer kicks off with a return to Hogwarts, a location we became extremely familiar with over the course of the Harry Potter series. Once again, it appears as if the school is besieged by unwelcome guests because a group of Aurors who appear to be from MACUSA arrive to question Professor Dumbledore, a character who, at this time, is a teacher of Transfiguration rather than the headmaster.

Viva La France!

It's been confirmed that each instalment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise will take place in a different city and in case you somehow hadn't heard, we get a reminder here that the action will be set in Paris.

The Deluminator

Fans have been wondering how Fantastic Beasts could tie into Harry Potter and here we get a very cool little Easter Egg. Dumbledore can be seen using his Deluminator to keep a low profile, an item he would ultimately bestow to Ron Weasley in his will after being killed by Snape in The Half Blood Prince.

An Unexpected Friendship

The trailer makes it clear that Newt and Dumbledore are good friends, surprising news considering the fact that the former was excluded from Hogwarts for unknown reasons. The first movie made it clear that Newt has a lot to be thankful to Dumbledore for, though, and this movie will hopefully shed a little more light on their relationship and why Dumbledore trusts his old student so much.

Torquil Travers

Derek Riddell is playing Torquil Travers in this chapter of the Fantastic Beasts saga and fans may remember that "Travers" was one of the Death Eaters by Lord Voldemort's side in the Harry Potter series. That doesn't necessarily mean Torquil is a bad guy but it certainly points to it being a possibility.

An Interesting Location

We know that Dumbledore was teaching Transfiguration at this time so why is he being questioned in the classroom typically reserved for Defense Against the Dark Arts? This could be a minor detail or a major one but it's hard to imagine it not factoring into the plot in some way, shape, or form.

Grindelwald's Followers

We don't see a huge amount of the villain in the trailer but he's shown here alongside loyal follower Vinda Rosier attempting to win even more wizards to his cause; ruling over the world's muggles. It's possible that this is Nurmengard, the stronghold which is ultimately used as Grindelwald's prison.

Some Familiar Faces Return

Tina is clearly back hard at work as an Auror following the events of the first movie, while Jacob can also be seen back by Newt's side. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them wrapped up with his memory being wiped but that clearly didn't stick and he appears to be keen for another adventure! Don't fret, though, Queenie fans because she can also be seen hanging around in this trailer.

Credence Is Also Back

We still don't know what the significance of Credence will be in this series but the character played by Justice League star Ezra Miller is still very much alive and showing off his abilities to Maledictus, someone we know has a blood curse which transforms her into some sort of beast. That gives these two common ground and may lead to some sort of unexpected romance between them both.

France's Version Of The Ministry Of Magic?

Newt and company will clearly be exploring some new magical locations in this movie and here we get a first look at what may or may not be France's version of the Ministry of Magic/MACUSA.

Leta Lestrange

The first Fantastic Beast movie revealed that Newt has some history with Leta Lestrange, a character whose family would ultimately play a big role in Voldemort's plan to take over the Wizarding World. Here, we see her doing some sort of performance in front of some rather important looking socialites and it's previously been revealed that she's engaged to Newt's brother, Theseus.

More Fantastic Beasts

Despite the title, we only see a handful of Fantastic Beasts in this trailer, with one of them being what appears to be a Kelpie, an underwater creature which is able to take on the form of a horse.

What's The Deal With This Puzzle?

We have no idea who that is or what they're looking at but these strange projections could have something to do with Grindelwald's plan and that hat looks similar to the one Dumbledore wears here. Interestingly, this character can later be seen seemingly blowing the roof off a French apartment.

Le Cirque Arcanus

This French circus could be integral to the plot because Maledictus is its featured attraction and that could be problematic for the wizarding community, especially if this clan is made up of magic users. Watching all of this take place is William Nadylam's mysterious character Yusuf Kama.

Pickett Returns

Can we stop a moment to acknowledge the return of the first Fantastic Beasts' movie's breakout character, Pickett? The adorable little plant is back and clearly a big part of Newt's adventures in Paris. Fans have really taken to the creature and there may be riots in theaters if he ends up being killed off!

Grindelwald's Escape

This intriguing scene shows a black carriage being pulled by Thestrals with Gellert Grindelwald being held inside at wand point. Is this a flashback, flashforward, or something else entirely? It's hard to say for sure but a LEGO set describes it as "Grindelwald's Escape," so it's safe to assume that this will be a key moment in the movie which is going to have some major ramifications for the series.

Brothers Fight Side By Side

Here, we see Newt and his brother Theseus taking part in a huge battle of some sort but what leads to them putting their differences aside isn't clear. Regardless, they clearly need each other's help here.

The Deathly Hallows

Still curious about how this movie will tie into the Harry Potter series? Well, the symbol of the Deathly Hallows is used at the end of the trailer, so that may tell us all we need to know about that.

I don't think it was ever stated in the film conintuy that Dumbledore taught transfiguration, so in the film canon they may change him to being defence against the dark arts (which seems logical for his character).

I really think its motivated by the classroom. We only saw the Trasfiguration classroom once in the film series, whereas the DATDA classroom has be prominently featured throughout the series,

Unsure how they plan to stretch this series to be five films, especially seeing as Grindlewald already has the Elderwand.

The Deathly Hallows symbol at the end is because it’s Grindelwald’s logo. It’s an ancient symbol of knowledge/peace that the Germanic Grindelwald adopted and made more widely known, to the point that even fifty years later most people associated it with his evil. Sound familiar?

Well, in the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, there's a scene at Fleur and Bill's wedding where Viktor Krum sees Xenophilus Lovegood wearing the symbol of the Deathly Hallows and immediately associates it with Grindelwald. Grindelwald and Dumbledore were going to collect all three to rule over the muggle world so that's why the symbol comes into play. Dumbledore gave up when the duel between him, Grindelwald, and Albus resulted in the death of his sister. Grindelwald continued his quest to collect the Deathly Hallows until his defeat at the hands of Dumbledore.

I'd also like to state, for speculations sake, that the scene in which Tina disarms Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts kinda puts her in jeopardy. Technically, she is the master of the Elder Wand, at this point, though she may not possess it physically. She won it's allegiance so Grindelwald would have to either kill her or disarm her in order to win it back. Just food for thought.
