Before writing Game of Thrones, acclaimed author George R.R. Martin penned a children's book by the name of The Ice Dragon. Now, that book is becoming an animated film.

Martin is reportedly working with Warner Animation Group to bring the 1980s novel to the big screen. Despite the title, The Ice Dragon is not actually set in the Seven Kingdoms, and actually takes place in a medieval fantasy world where warring kingdoms harness the power of fire-breathing dragons. The story follows a young girl named Adara, who secretly befriends an Ice Dragon that can help save her city from destruction.

The adaptation of The Ice Dragon does not yet have a release date. Martin is producing the film, while Vince Gerardis is serving as EP.

Earlier this year, Martin confirmed that The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, will not release in 2018 as many hoped it would. Meanwhile, the eight and final season of HBO's Game of Thrones series will premiere in 2019.
