Robert Rodriquez certainly seems to be in for a busy time of it. The director recently announced that after Machete Kills he would finally be turning his attention to a Sin City sequel. Now, he has announced plans to start work on a third project as soon as he's finished with that - his remake of the 1983 animated feature by Ralph Bakshi, based on the stories and artwork of the legendary Frank Frazetta, Fire And Ice.
“That’s in the works to go right into after Sin City, Frank Frazetta’s Fire and Ice,” Rodriguez said during a telephone interview in conjunction with the Blu-ray release of his 1994 film Roadracers. “We’re almost done with the script, we’ve got it pretty much 70 percent there – I’m really excited about that one.”
Frazetta's work has influenced a Hell of a lot of art and fiction over the years. His early cover paintings for the likes of
Heavy Metal magazine and his interpretation of
Conan The Barbarian being his most popular. Rodriguez has revealed that he plans to shoot the movie in a similar style to
Sin City, saying at last year's SDCC -
“I want it to look like you just stepped into one of his [Frazetta's] paintings, where you get to see his world, and how he saw people, anatomy, and composition and color.” The images above are concept designs created by Rodriguez and his team at Quick Draw Entertainment.
