RED SONJA Movie Now Eyeing Former X-MEN Director Bryan Singer To Helm

Well, here's some unexpected news. According to a new trade report, Millennium is in negotiations with Bohemian Rhapsody and former X-Men director Bryan Singer to helm a new live-action Red Sonja movie...

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that 4x Primetime Emmy-nominee Bryan Singer (X-Men: Apocalypse) is currently in talks with Millennium Films to helm their upcoming live-action Red Sonja movie.

Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class) has been tasked with penning the script.

The reboot of the 1985 film, which starred Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger, previously had Robert Rodriguez (Alita: Battle Angel) onboard to direct with his then-girlfriend Rose McGowan (Charmed) attached to star. However, following a flashy announcement at that year's Comic-Con, nothing ever materialized from their involvement, resulting in the project essentially being stuck in development hell for the better part of the last decade.

Singer is best known for directing four of the blockbuster X-Men movies for 20th Century Fox and also recently helmed the upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody before ultimately being fired after a repeated series of workplace offenses and erratic behavior. He was also later sued by Cesar Sanchez-Guzman, who accused the director of raping him when he was 17-years-old in 2003. This was the latest in a number of accusations the director has faced over the past several years.

Singer reportedly oversaw editing of Bohemian Rhapsody, which has been generating extremely positive buzz around Hollywood, and will receive full directing credit despite not being present for the conclusion of filming. He's eyeing Red Sonja as an opportunity to rehabilitate his public image while Millenium is willing to take a chance on him since they believe "none of the allegations seem to have merit."
