WonderCon '13: ARROW Executive Producer On Dick Grayson, Season 4 And More

With the sizzle reel that premiered at WonderCon, we have a new interview with executive producer Marc Guggenheim as well. "[Warner Bros.] doesn't want Dick Grayson to appear on Arrow if they're going to [put] Dick Grayson in a movie."

Arrow Banner Marc Guggenheim

-Guggenheim talks about the origin of Green Arrow as a Batman ripoff
- Tommy Merlyn will have to decide if he is his father or his own man moving forward.
- It's never a 'licensing issue', it's an 'apportionment of assets' issue when it comes to using the Bat-family characters. [WB] doesn't want Dick Grayson to appear on Arrow if they're going to [put] Dick Grayson in a movie.
- With the success of the show, producers and writers are now having discussions on multi-year time horizons.
- A meeting has already been held with DC about which DC characters will be appearing in Season Two.
-Quite a bit of Season Two has already been planned. The showrunners know what the season premiere will be, what the midpoint would be and what the season finale would be.
- There's already a storyline for Season 4 and 5 being discussed that's directly inspired by an unspecified comic book story arc.

The below video interview was conducted at WonderCon 2013 with Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim. A LOT of ground was covered, too much to transcribe in one sitting but I've highlighted bits and pieces above and provided a couple of choice quotes below. This is definitely a must-watch for any fan of the show.

With Arrow being The CW's most watched television show, Guggenheim says, "Even if Dick Grayson is not going to appear in episode 201, (producers and writers) can talk about whether Dick Grayson will EVER appear on the show."

The showrunners are giving Batman: The Cult by Jim Starlin and Bernie Wrightson to the writers to read during the hiatus between Season One and Season Two.

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.
