GREEN HORNET Won't Get a Sequel

GREEN HORNET Won't Get a Sequel GREEN HORNET Won't Get a Sequel

Bad news for Seth Rogen as the film's producer Neal Moritz has recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he has no plans for a sequel to 2011's The Green Hornet.

Synopsis: Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is a slacker by day, party animal by night... until he finds a serious career that's seriously cool: crime-fighting action hero. As the Green Hornet, he teams up with gadget wiz and martial arts master Kato (Jay Chou) to take down LA's underworld.

While promoting 21 Jump Street Hollywood film producer Neal Moritz explained why The Green Hornet will not have a sequel. He stressed that the film was well liked, (which I don't agree with), but said other factors lead him to nix the chances of a sequel.

THR: Is The Green Hornet an example of a movie that wasn't liked enough to warrant a sequel?

Moritz: The problem wasn't that. The movie did almost $250 million and was actually very well liked, but we made the movie for too much money. One, we made it in L.A. for certain reasons, and two, we decided to go to 3D -- that added another $10 million. If I had done it in a tax-rebate state and not done 3D, it would have been considered a huge financial success for the studio. So we're not making a sequel right now.

The Green Hornet Starred Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, and directed by Michel Gondry. The film also starred Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz, Edward James Olmos, David Harbour, and Tom Wilkinson.

Should never had been made in the first place!

Total Hollywood crap of taking any source material and turning it into yet another action comedy for idiots who can't watch anything other than comedies or action comedies!

They need to start shooting these studio execs in the back of the head!

Sure it was more entertaining than Green Lantern... I liked the movie but half the movie Rogen is just the same character of his other movies (Just like Raynolds).

They should replace him for a sequel, or make him act properly.

I liked it, it wasnt trying to be just a comic book movie,it was a comedy too...i thought the mixed worked for a frankly poor hero, i have no interest in a serious green hornet movie as its all konda ripoffy and ridiculous. It wasnt amazing but it was a bit of entertaining fun.

I rented this turd and had to keep rewinding it because I could barely pay attention to it.

Good news. Crap shouldn't be rewarded with an ongoing franchise. Resident Evil.

@SebHope - The source material may be old but it needed adapting, not spoofing! There was no need to turn yet another dramatic source into a run of the mill comedy for idiot-cinema. By making it into that they sealed its fate, rather than make something different, notable or rememberable.

My interest level for this crap is at a negative if thats possible. Love pineapple express and superbad (love my mary jane obviously) but this was garbage. Hollywood will leach off whoever is hot at that moment. Yeah more Channing Tatum movies! Sarcasm intended.

There are two lessons to be derived from this:
1) Don't waste money on crappy and unnecessary gimmicks like 3D.
2) Shoot more movies in Louisiana and other states that offer generous tax incentives to shoot there, as opposed to doing it in L.A., which has MUCH higher costs in many areas.

I would consider a third lesson in general to be less reliance on expensive CGI effects for most films. That alone would save many millions. All that CGI has done is turn many movies into little more than live-action cartoons.

That really sucks. I LOVED The Green Hornet. It was one of my favorite movies last year. It was a lot of fun. I love that line about the 3D though. Let that be a lesson upcoming films. [frick] that 3D bullshit.

Great news. I couldn't get into the movie honestly. Some fun moments, but otherwise quite forgettable IMO.

Awwwwww.........?

Christopher Waltz was the best part of Green Hornet. The rest of the movie was "meh" for me, but I wasn't a fan of the original series (except for Bruce Lee, of course).

Jay Chow and the Black Beauty were pretty good, but the rest of the film was mediocre. It does not need a sequel.

I'm amazed at how many people on this site view every film as either fantastic or crap, with no middle ground. Evaluating films is not binary -- there is such a thing as a somewhat-entertaining-but-not-all-that-great movie. That's exactly what I felt about Green Hornet. I was somewhat glad I rented it on DVD, but I have no desire to see it again.

** Wait. Which one was the Green Hornet? ** The one where a dying bumblebee gave him a green hornet ring. He would use it with his willpower to get hornets, wasps and bees to obey him, like they'd cover him completely and then fly around with him, or he'd shoot a swarm of bees in the shape of big fist. At the end of each day, he'd have to recharge the ring by sticking his fist into a hornets nest and saying some shit about evil doers having to "... beware Green Hornets bite."

Okay I didn't hate the movie, but I wasn't impressed either. Like most said Kato and the Black beauty were the best things about this. The whole setup was bad. I have to agree with ToughGrappler, that they should've use the Kevin Smith script that became the comic. it's well written, has humor but still takes it self somewhat seriously. This French short film was also badass!!

@toughgrappler, yes i agree, Kevin Smiths comic should be the basis for the green hornet movie, and actually was. Kevin Smith was originally tapped to do the movie, he basically siked himself out and decided not to do a big budget film, this was while he was still doing very low budget movies. The Green Hornet comic book is basically what he had written out and was his idea for the movie. The Comic has been great, i have a little catching up to do but from what i have read, its been very nice.
