David S. Goyer Says He'd Love To Tackle GREEN LANTERN
In case you don't keep up with the news quite like the truly obsessive fans around these parts, Warner Bros. is undergoing a seismic change. The film studio's new CEO, Kevin Tsujihara is determined to tap the DC Comics potential for film franchises. While he recently made news about a new superhero film series that's going to be announced, keep in mind that last September, he stated that he's planning on releasing 12 to 14 DC Comics adaptations in the coming years. In mapping out WB's film slate over the next few years, Tsujihara stated:
Green Lantern seems to be on the tip of a lot of people's tongues. Dwayne Johnson may or may not have hinted at the role, Chadwick Boseman is offhandedly bringing up the character in interviews and now, so is DC Cinematic Universe godfather David S. Goyer.
"Female centric kind of pictures, that they have been really successful and obviously the Tolkien kind of franchise with the hobbit is kind of a signature piece of new one. Then you have 12 to 14 pictures coming from Warner Bros. And I think the basis, foundation of those 12 to 14 pictures are going to be coming from DC Entertainment. We have Batman versus Superman coming out in ’15, but those are going to be in the coming months a lot of announcements regarding kind of the future movie, television, games and consumer product pieces that are going to be coming from DC."
That quote comes from a September 2013 interview Tsujihara had with Yahoo, so we've known Warner Bros. was planning something regarding their premiere superheroes for quite some time. Also occcurring fairly recently, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson had a cryptic Instagram hashtag which read, "John Stewart Can Still Whup Supermans Ass." A few days ago, Johnson was asked about this statement and would neither confirm or deny that he'll play John Stewart, only that he's been having ongoing discussions with Warner Bros. about playing a superhero character that's never been brought to life before and has a Superman power level. Just yesterday, hot, young actor Chadwick Boseman (42) was asked by blackfilm.com if their's any truth to rumors he'll play Black Panther for Marvel Studios. Unbidded, Boseman brought up the subject of Green Lantern as if wanting to test public perception of the character.
Now we have David S. Goyer speaking to Collider to promote Davinici's Code season 2. And in this interview, Goyer admits that "he'd love to do Green Lantern." Keep in mind that Goyer is reportedly Warner Bros.' version of Kevin Feige so if Green Lantern is something of a passion project for him, chances are it's going to happen.
What do you think? Is all the recent Green Lanter|John Stewart chatter just a coincidence or is this one of the 12 to 14 films WB CEO Kevin Tsujihara stated is coming down the pipeline over the next few years?
