Guardians of the Galaxy exceeded everyone's expectations last year, and for quite some time, it held the crown as 2014's highest grossing movie in North America. That's quite the accomplishment, especially in a year which saw the release of a number of far better known superhero franchises like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Both domestically and worldwide, Guardians of the Galaxy beat each of those. Back at home, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 proved it's hard to beat a popular YA adaptation, even if it is essentially two hours of people standing around talking. @giteshpandya reports that the first half of that series' finale is set to comfortably overtake Guardians of the Galaxy with a total of around $340 million to become 2014's #1 domestic movie. That's only $8 million more the Marvel Studios movie, and it's hard to imagine Part 2 reaching these same heights in a year which features the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: The Force Awakens...
