Rian Johnson didn't want past social media posts to affect the status of his upcoming Star Wars trilogy and simply made a calculated decision to delete over 20k Tweets in the wake of James Gunn's firing.

With James Gunn's firing Disney proved that they have no qualms about firing anyone that could negatively affect their family-brand image, no matter how successful or productive they've been for the company.

That's what influenced Rian Johnson to delete over 20K tweets shortly after Gunn's firing was announced.

However, Johnson refuted any notions that the decision was influenced by anyone at Disney, stating that he simply wanted to cut off any potential controversy before it had the chance to rear its head.  He's not even sure if anything in those older Tweets would have landed him in hot water.

Though controversial, Star Wars: The Last Jedi grossed $1.33 billion USD at the worldwide box office from an estimated production budget of $250 million. Lucasfilm subsequently hired Rian Johnson to spearhead development on a new trilogy of Star Wars films, wholly separate from previous Episodes.

@JourneyIntoMystery - If James Gunn was fired over tweets found by Trump Supporters why are Trump supporters not asking for the firing of their president whom is influencing war and economic disaster?

@ODanil -
Rian Johnson straight-up attacked people on twitter by calling them racist, sexist and homophobic with nothing to support his remarks including going to the extent of finding people who had not even had any interaction with him just to attack them.

In addition Rian Johnson rallied hate at others while using old tweets to try and get them fired. Rian Johnson used the same tactics Gunn used on others and he's now worried he'll get the same treatement turned against him as happened to Gunn.

Honestly, Rian kind of deserves it, his attitude is terrible and he's potentially destroyed the Star Wars fanbase beyond repair losing billions for Disney. He's potentially the worst figure you'd want to be associated with your company.

Publicly dismissing him would be in Disney's best interests regardless of people's thoughts on Episode 8 his handling of criticism is like a child.

Not a fan of this man but this makes total sense. I can't blame him for this and I would do the same if I worked in a public setting
