Disney's decision to fire James Gunn has received its fair share of backlash but we recently learned that it's highly unlikely the studio will give the filmmaker another chance (despite Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 cast members releasing an open letter defending him). We do know that Gunn turned in a completed screenplay shortly before being let go, but will Marvel Studios actually end up using that?
It would look more than a little hypocritical for a "Written By James Gunn" credit to flash up on screen after Disney decided he's not worthy of taking the helm of the threequel, and now a new rumour claims that the studio is going back to the drawing board for Vol. 3 and will not only scrap the filmmaker's story, but significantly delay production by going back to the drawing board to start from scratch.
Bear in mind that this news doesn't come from the trades and should be taken with a pinch of salt as a result. However, if this is indeed the case, Dave Bautista won't be returning as Drax because he's already made it clear that if Gunn's script isn't used, he'll be asking Marvel to release him from his contract.
