Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was fired by Disney for some resurfaced offensive Tweets, and that left Vol. 3 without anyone at the helm. Cast members and fans alike voiced their disapproval of the studio's decision, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige ultimately managed to get Bob Iger to change his mind and bring Gunn back to helm the threequel.
By that point, Gunn was hard at work on The Suicide Squad, thereby pushing back Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's release date. Now, we're unlikely to see the movie theaters until 2022 at the earliest, and even that's potentially optimistic with everything going on in the world right now.
Now, Gunn has taken to Twitter to reveal that, had things gone to plan, Vol. 3 would have been revealed in theaters this month. Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic means that was never destined to happen, so the Marvel threequel being postponed exactly like Black Widow was the most likely outcome, ultimately pushing it later into 2020.
Still, it means we would have had a first look at the movie by now!
