The Course For The Cosmic MCU After GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Vol. 3 Is Actively Being Mapped
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 director James Gunn says he and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige are actively planning out where the cosmic side of the MCU is headed after the GotG trilogy wraps.
During development of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, director James Gunn stated that he was actively working on the broader strokes of the franchise's third film. After some touch-and-go months, Gunn confirmed this past April that he would be returning to helm a third film and that he would be overseeing the direction of the cosmic side of the MCU.
So where does the galactic side of the Marvel Universe head after Thanos finally arrives in Avengers: Infinity War, the Skrulls debut in Captain Marvel and the Guardians reunite for a third and presumably final cinematic adventure?
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn teased, "Those scripts are already in the works. Kevin [Feige] and I talk about it all the time, we just had a meeting today. Discussing what is the next iteration of cosmic characters and where are the characters that we’ve already created going to go in the next batch of films."
So what mystery scripts could Gunn be referring to? Will Sylvester Stallone's Ravagers crew get their own film franchise? Could Adam Warlock spin-off into his own film after being introduced in Vol. 3 (Gunn has already confirmed that he won't appear in Infinity War)?
Then there's other cosmic Marvel characters and ideas that have yet to be introduced into the MCU such as the Beyonder, the Annhilators, the Living Tribunal and a host of other fan-favorite Marvel off-world concepts.
Do you have any particular ideas about where Gunn should lead the cosmic side of the MCU? Share and discuss in the usual spot below.
