As Sony and Mattel Films' live-action He-Man plans heat up, perhaps now is the opportune time to visit veteran concept artist Paul Gerrad's take on The Most Powerful Man in the Universe and his foes.

A live-action He-Man film following Dolph Lundgren's '80s turn as the Eternian champion has failed to achieve liftoff for a number of years. Going as far back as 2007, John Woo was attached to helm a live-action reboot that never materialized, resulting in the character's film rights leaving Fox and returning to Mattel.

After a brief partnership with Warner Bros., Mattel sold the film rights to Sony in 2009, who set up  Kung Fu Panda helmer John Stevenson before Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Crazy Rich Asians) boarded the project in 2012.

Since then, other directors and screenwriters that have been attached include Jeff Wadlow, David S.Goyer, Christopher Yost, Joe Cornish, Rian Johnson, Phil Lord & Chris Miller and McG.

Most recently, Sony is said to have retained Goyer's story but screenwriting credits would be given to Iron Man and Punisher: War Zone screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Siblings Aaron and Adam Nee were hired to direct the film after an impressive indie feature, with Noah Centineo (To All The Boys I've Loved Before) in talks to star.

By all accounts, Sony appears to finally be ready to move forward with a He-Man feature film adaptation, which is why we're presenting the concept art of industry veteran Paul Gerrard, whose credits include Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Into the Badlands. He also has a new book, titled RIVALS: Paul Gerrard's Dark Fantasy Art, Volume II Hardcover, which you can order by CLICKING HERE.
