Why risk disappointing box office returns when you can just release a movie on Neflix? It appears as if that's Sony's thinking, as they currently mull over putting the live-action He-Man reboot on Netflix.

It's been in development for over a decade, but it now appears as if the Masters of the Universe reboot won't even get to see the inside of a theater. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures is mulling over a number of options for the movie (that's supposed to be released in 2021).

Noah Centineo was attached to play He-Man but his involvement is now uncertain, and the rest of the cast has yet to be filled out. As a result, cameras obviously haven't started rolling, but the studio is now considering whether to find a studio or financier to help with the cost of the project as they really can't afford another big loss after this year's Men in Black: International

Now, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group co-president Sanford Panitch is handling the negotiations between Sony and Netflix, and while it's still early days, this would be a big win for the latter.

After all, with so many new competing streaming services coming our way, original content is more important than ever before and something like Masters of the Universe would definitely drive up subscription and viewership numbers for Netflix. It will also help Sony avoid another box office disaster, especially if they're not overly confident in this movie's chances of success.

As always, we'll be sure to keep you guys updated.
