ARMY OF THE DEAD Star Dave Bautista Explains What Sets Zack Snyder's Zombie Movie Apart From Others ARMY OF THE DEAD Star Dave Bautista Explains What Sets Zack Snyder's Zombie Movie Apart From Others

Thanks to The Walking Dead, we've all grown used to seeing zombies on screen, but Army of the Dead star Dave Bautista has opened up on what it is that makes Zack Snyder's movie stand out from the crowd.

Zack Snyder's big screen directorial debut was Dawn of the Dead, so it's fitting that, as he leaves the DC Extended Universe behind, the filmmaker is returning to the world of the undead. Set for release on Netflix, Army of the Dead is set in Las Vegas, and follows a group of mercenaries as they take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.

It's a crazy, unique concept, and one which points to a movie which should be an absolute blast.

For lead star Dave Bautista (who chose this movie over a role in The Suicide Squad), he's been champing at the bit for years to star in a zombie story. "I’m a zombie fan," he recently told Empire. "I tried to get on Walking Dead for years. I said I would come and play a zombie for free, but they said, ‘You’re too big!’"

As for what makes Snyder's take on the genre special, the actor added: "For me, there had to be something special about a zombie film for me to sign up. What sets us apart is the heist. But there’s a whole bunch of different layers to this film."

We don't have a confirmed release date for Army of the Dead, but we know it's coming to Netflix sometime this year. It's likely the streaming service will wait for the hype surrounding Zack Snyder's Justice League to die down a little before hyping their own movie from the popular filmmaker.

How excited are you for Army of the Dead

Love zombies, can't wait!! Also Dave would make a terrifying zombie especially if he was a runner like DOTD types.

Dave being too big for TWD sounds just dumb. Can't there big muscular pepole in the apocalypse? Regardless he dodged a bullet with TWD, the show hasn't been good since season 4.

This is actually the one Snyder project I'm looking forward for, it's more down his alley since it's not an adaption that is up to interpretation. There are no preset characters, no tone he has to adhere to. This can be all him.

While I'm tired of zombies I'll certainly give this a shot.

@Blergh - I have to disagree and seeing him as a Zombie would be a hilariously dumb distraction. The notion of Zombies in and of itself is already ridiculous but to see some HUGE muscular zombie would make me feel like what the hell is this Zombie doing to be so big LOL.

He would just be too much of a standout man. Keep the skinny ;looking ones that can come across as decrepit and rotting as zombies should be.

@case - fast zombies certainly pose more of a threat than the slow ones. My favourite type of zombie is still the breed from the Left 4 Dead games. Scary mofos

@Blergh - ah man loved that game! Could never finish it co-op back in the day. The sequel seemed pretty rad too but didn't get enough time with it.

@case - just got into L4D2 again to prepare for Back 4 Blood (the spiritual sequel by the original developers). When playing it with friends this stuff is SO MUCH FUN.

Plus there are some great mods out there, in particular there's an entire recreation of the first three Resident Evil games.

By too big, they meant he looked too well fed to be a zombie.

@KingLeonidas - Yeah, but he could have been a freshly turned zombie who was a big muscular guy. He was asking to do it for free. Seems weird they would pass that up.

@CorndogBurglar - I think they might have been looking for trained actors.

@KingLeonidas - I can see that. If he was going to be a muscular zombie, they would have put a perticular amount of focus on him for whatever scene they were doing. You would want that person took look good, even if its just making crazy zombie faces and sounds.

What’s going on with this movie? It’s seems weird that it’s been in post for more than a year. Maybe he somehow convinced them to delay it so he could do JL, since he said he was doing post on both at the same time but this movie wrapped on Oct 2019. I know they were reshoots bc they replaced Chris Delia so maybe those were significant but it seems odd it’s taking this long and we don’t even have a trailer yet

Bautista came a long way from a cameo on Smallville. Good for the guy.
