ASH VS EVIL DEAD Officially Canceled By Starz After Three Crazy Blood Spattered Seasons ASH VS EVIL DEAD Officially Canceled By Starz After Three Crazy Blood Spattered Seasons

After three crazy, blood-spattered seasons, the adventures of Ash Williams are sadly coming to an end. Starz has officially canceled Ash vs Evil Dead, most likely closing the door on the franchise...

It is a sad day for fans of Ash vs Evil Dead. After three crazy awesome blood-spattered seasons, Starz has finally given the axe (or the chainsaw?) to Ash vs Evil Dead, arguably one of the best shows on TV for the past few years. There will not be a fourth season and the season 3 finale, airing in two weeks, will now serve as a series finale.

While the show has remained critically acclaimed since its debut three years ago and has a very loyal fanbase, it has struggled heavily in the ratings department this season with very low viewership, largely a result of the show being one of the most pirated series online. Carmi Zlotnik, the President of Programming at Starz, had the following to say in response to the network canceling the show: "Ash v Evil Dead has taken audiences on a wild ride for three seasons thanks to the fantastic performances and creative efforts of Sam, Bruce, Rob and the entire cast and crew. We are proud to send the show out with a bang…and a splat.

Series star Bruce Campbell posted the following tweet earlier today, thanking everyone for the ride and role of a lifetime and seemingly saying goodbye to playing Ash Williams:

Dana DeLorenzo, who plays Kelly, also expressed her thanks to the incredible cast she has worked with for the past three years, especially Lucy Lawless, Ray Santiago, and Bruce Campbell. She also thanked Starz, Sam Raimi, and everyone else on the production side for a thrill of a lifetime:

With the season 3 finale now serving as the series finale, it is very likely that we will be closing the door on the Evil Dead franchise as a whole once and for all. While Bruce Campbell had initially indicated that a movie could occur if the show was canceled, in recent months he has changed his tune, indicating that he would likely hang up the chainsaw were the show to be canceled, and that cancellation would likely serve as the end of the franchise.

Its important to note that it is best to never say never when talking about the Evil Dead franchise. For years Bruce Campbell said we would never see him back as Ash and now we have had three seasons worth of him playing the character, more than two decades after Army of Darkness. It is always possible that a fourth movie could be made, at one point there were rumors of multiple films, or perhaps the show could get picked up by another streaming service. For the time being though, it appears that the season 3 finale will be the swan song for our favorite chainsaw wielding badass.

At the very least, it appears Ash vs Evil Dead will be ending on a bang as Ash and company face off against a deadite epidemic resulting from the Dark Ones escaping their prison. Be sure to tune in for the final two episodes of Ash vs Evil Dead, which air Sunday night at 9 pm EST on Starz. And never forget- Ghostbeaters for life!

Not groovy at all Starz

@mDIGGLER - I actually have a lot of respect for Starz. Three season with pretty poor ratings and they kept it on for mostly the brand name and the devoted fans.

@mDIGGLER - Hopefully this will be a bitter sweet moment as people realize the harm pirating does. This show didn't need to be cancelled if we just bothered watching it legitimately.

@Origame - Let's hope Netflix officially purchases the rights (since they've already got seasons 1 & 2 there now) and orders new seasons.

@Origame - watching it legitimately for us was buying the seasons when they came out. Starz is a shitty version of HBO and isn't worth getting for one show.

@GhostSurfer - I'm not quite sure they will (order new seasons) unless there's a huge calling for it. Fingers crossed.

Also wish there was some realistic way to crack down on pirates. This is just getting out of hand.

@NathimusPrime - Clearly we weren't bothering with that since, as pointed out here, it was the most pirated show out there.

@Origame - This is my hope why Netflix would order new seasons. If it's streamed so much, maybe it would fit naturally on Netflix?

Patrick Stewart did not know who Sting was during filming of 1984 Scifi drama Dune nor was he meant to play the character.

@BlackStar25 - apparently they knew that they might be cancelled so planned a conclusive season finale just in case.

That sucks, they should try to find another network, id say the perfect place for it would be the El Rey Network

This is a real shame, saw the first three episodes of this when it first came out and loved it, with the exception of the movies (Which other than AoD I was never a fan of) it was unlike anything Id seen on tv before, funny, gory and just plain bat-shit crazy fun. Cant believe some of the shit that keeps running and running and this gets the boot?! Sad days, especially when its mostly down to torrenting!

@Nerderer - You have to put things into context. I remember when the original came out, it blew everyone away. Now of course it looks old and dated.

HeavyMetal4Life - 4/21/2018, 11:14 AM
@jj2112 - yeah the original is pretty dated, but Evil Dead 2 still holds up in my opinion, what a great movie and I'd argue the best horror comedy film out there.

The idea of this show always seemed better suited to a streaming platform like Netflix rather than network or cable TV. Maybe it'll get picked up by someone else.

Well now Ash vs The Walking Dead will only happen in my mind. But it happens everyday, it's awesome and Ash always wins. This show was more than I deserved from life, it was so cool.

I hope Starz gives them a TV movie directed by Sam Raimi to act as the Franchise finale. I seriously doubt the last episode of this season will tie up every loose thread ED has going on.
