Ghostbusters: Afterlife is now set to be released on June 11th later this year, and while a lot of fans are sceptical about this sequel (especially after that divisive female-led reboot), it does look like a fun ride. The plan for this follow-up to the original movies is to put the spotlight on a new, young cast, while also bringing back some fan-favourites, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson.

Jason Reitman, the son of Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, is in the director's chair, and he's now opened up about his father's reaction to watching his take on the franchise for the first time.

"My father hasn’t been leaving the house much because of Covid," he reveals. "But he took a test, put on a mask and drove down to the Sony lot to watch the movie with the studio. And after, he cried, and he said, ‘I’m so proud to be your father.’ And it was one of the great moments of my life."

Jason went on to say that a priority for him with Ghostbusters: Afterlife was making sure it retained the scares of those original movies.

"The feeling that I’ve kind of held onto is that while it is very funny, it really scared me. It was really my first experience with a horror film. I was at a Directors Guild meeting and I happened to be sitting next to Steven Spielberg – when I told him I was working on Ghostbusters, he out of nowhere said, ‘Library Ghost – top ten scares of all time.’ And it’s true."

A new still from the movie has also been released, highlighting Ghostbusters: Afterlife's young cast members (Mckenna Grace, Logan Kim, and Finn Wolfhard). You can check that out below:

Man imagine taking on your Fathers pride and joy, to hear it reduced him to tears and he was super proud of you. I’ve got a good feeling about this

Taking the scare factor serious was one of the major reasons the 2016 Ghostbusters didn’t work.

I'm hoping my reaction is more "Luke in the Mandalorian" than "Luke in TLJ".

Looking forward to this one. Fond memories of going to the theater to see the originals.
