The 2016 Ghostbusters reboot wasn't met with a particularly positive response and now star Leslie Jones has taken aim at Sony Pictures for deciding to release a sequel (of sorts) to the original movies.

Last week, we learned that Jason Reitman will write and direct a new Ghostbusters movie which is set in the same continuity as the first two instalments. Revolving around a group of teenagers who seemingly inherit the mantle from the original team, it's unclear whether or not the classic foursome will play any sort of role in proceedings, but fans are hopeful.

Someone who isn't best pleased is Leslie Jones, one of the stars of the 2016 female-led reboot which also featured Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon.

Her reaction is understandable, but various outlets have reported that two of the teens are going to be female which means Sony isn't completely giving up on the idea of bringing some diversity to the beloved franchise.

The sad fact is that the overwhelmingly negative response to 2016's Ghostbusters movie was because it featured an all-female cast, but it didn't end up being particularly good anyway thanks to a weak script and forced cameos from some of the original actors which were rejected by fans. Now, it seems as if the reboot will be forgotten about when this "sequel" is released.

Do you think Jones' reaction is over the top or warranted? Let us know your thoughts below.

Terminator Genisys said "f*ck you, you don't count" to Terminator 3 and Salvation.

The next Terminator movie is likely to say "f*ck you, you don't count" to Genisys as well.

Sis, it just happens.

@Kurne - The thing about the Terminator franchise is that thanks to different timelines you can "reboot" (like Star Trek 2009) all you want without fully rebooting (like Batman Begins). The way I see it Genisys took place in an altered timeline where only the first movie was relevant, and I think the new one is going to pick up after the first two movies and then create an alternate timeline.

But I get what you're saying. Last year we had a Halloween movie that not only ignored the remake and its sequel, but every sequel to the original as well.

@Batman91 - yeah, thats gonna be the new thing after remakes and reboots. Now its sequels that are years later. Personally, i could care less about the continuity of the whole thing. The new halloween movie, for example, was ultimately a reboot of the original movie just, with a mental patient running loose and a teenage girl needs to survive. Just now it takes place in the same continuity as the first movie. It also doesnt even include all the same people who worked on the original. What should really matter is talent and vision. So I'll give this new movie a chance just like the 2016 reboot.

Hahaha All that trash reboot did was confirm that fans want a proper sequel. But let's join hands and pray it's better than the second one, I still can't watch that turd.

Your movie sucked Leslie. Forced humor, bad acting and Paul Fieg's Melissa M. fetish.

Shut the F up dumbass, why you need to make it all about gender?

Well nobody asked for a female reboot either. And to be honest, in general I prefer sequels to movies from the 80s than yet another reboot

"So insulting. Like [frick] us. We dint count."

Well you DINT make a good film, it's 80% improvised according to the director.
And you DINT respect the franchise.

"It’s like something trump would do. (Trump voice)”Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge."

Yeah except they have already said the team consists of Women AND Men (You see just because producers were sexist in the 80's doesn't mean you have to reverse that sexism in 2016)

@nikgrid - Dont see how the original can be called sexist when the 2016 film actually was sexist. They werent Ghostbusters, but Dana and Janine were respected in the original. In the reboot the characters hired Chris Hemsworth's character becuase they think he is hot, and the male characters are idiots

No I get that, I'm saying that's how the 2016 production team saw the original and responded to it.

I'm a big fan of GB. saw the original in theatres a few times, there's nothing wrong with it.

It's sad, because she's the one acting in a sexist way.

This is not the age of women, nor the age of men. It is, and should be, the age of people. No matter the gender, everyone is equal.

So, complaining about a full-female cast to be replaced by 2 girls and 2 guys, isn't exactly fight for equality.

Grow up.

@OuzoPowerMan - To anyone who sees this as a typical example of a feminist-leftist reaction, this shouldn't be a surprise at all.

Because that is exactly what it is.

Your modern day feminist-leftist folks.

Typical lib response. The original Ghostbusters are back. You’re correct, you “dint” count. Now go away!
