If Ruffalo could have somehow combined Norton's Banner and his very aggressive Hulk, with his own twitchy, ticking time bomb Banner and the CGI of the Hulk in The Avengers, this could have been one of my favourite characters in the MCU.

Unfortunately I don't care that much for Banner, though in Ragnarok and Endgame the character was a lot better than before.

Physically Norton is a much better match for Bruce Banner. Ruffalo doesn’t ‘look’ like Banner. But he’s a team player and its his role now.

Oddly enough, even though Ruffalo doesn’t look like Banner....he does make a great ‘Hulk’ (when his face is used as the model for the CGI effect).

@deepee3 - That's true, lol. Norton looked more like Banner, but his face completely disappeared when being the Hulk.

With Ruffalo, it IS him.

@KWilly - I think Bana looked the Banner part better.

I like the idea of a two movie thing with Norton's Hulk. But as much as it is indeed a cheap move, Feige's comment makes sense in the context of the MCU

This is just more proof of how hard it was to pull off for Marvel and Feige. To keep creative control of over 20 films...getting quirky and flaky actors to behave and produce film after film of the same roles...keeping studio execs all on the same page...while producing what so much of Hollywood basically considers extremely expensive cartoons.

Pretty amazing

We ended up with a better actor portraying a better Banner so it worked out for the MCU. Sad it looks like we’ll never get a Ruffalo Hulk solo movie because of dumb people being dumb. But I really hope Liv Tyler shows up in She-Hulk.

@TheUnworthyThor - you're trippin. Norton is a thousand times the better actor.

@Makiveli21 - They are both great actors, so normally you can’t go wrong but I do think Ruffalo portrayed the better Banner, but most of Norton’s best stuff was 20 years ago while Ruffalo with The Kids Are All Right, Foxcatcher, Spotlight, The Normal Heart has just been killing it inside and outside the MCU this past decade so yeah at this point in their careers I’ll take Ruffalo.

I don't know, I like Norton a lot but Banner is very much one of his weaker performances. I do think he's better casting for the part than Ruffalo, even though the latter is in better projects normally. Shame about Motherless Brooklyn getting such mixed reviews, was hoping for that to be his comeback.

Rufflo is better, but the direction the character was taken should have been a lot better. After The Avengers, they made Hulk too childish. Even in the Avengers, he didn't seem as menacing as in the solo movie, but it was a good middle ground, after that he just got more and more childish. What we got was fun, but we could have gotten a much better story for him. (like if they didn't skip over Banner gaining control of the Hulk)

I like Ruffalo more as an actor than Norton, but to me "his" version of the Hulk was too toothless and easily my least favorite part of the MCU, especially the last few outings. I understand why they went that way, It's just a bitter pill to swallow.

@inkniron - Yeah, Ruffalo's Hulk special effects looked great. But him getting beat down by Thanos, and refusing to come out afterwards, was REALLY bad. I think Norton's Banner/Hulk came off more tragic and bad@$$. Loved that ending in Incredible Hulk.

That's too pity that we didn't get any sequels and Norton dropped the role. Still, license moment is tough with Universal((

Let's hope that She-Hulk will change further relationships with Universal and Disney.

Norton Hulk was an epic beast, Ruffalo Hulk turned into a comedic non beast that was emo SMDH

There does certainly seem to be merit to Norton's approach to the character (and if he'd been brought into the MCU in 2016 instead of 2006, he might find Marvel a more accommodating place, since a lot of what he's saying sounds like the direction the Doctor Strange franchise is going).

But when the Incredible Hulk was made, people were still strongly trapped inside the box of traditional superhero movies. Iron Man worked really well within that box, on the charisma of the actors and the dedication to the worldbuilding. But Norton's Hulk utterly failed in that regard. (And there's plenty of fault to go around. The final script wasn't all that strong, but Norton didn't deliver on the material either. And mostly to me, it failed at what it was trying to be: a monster beat-em-up.) So, yeah, the prospect of another bite at the apple (one that Marvel itself didn't actually benefit from since it would be through Universal) wasn't that appealing.

But the "cheap shot" wasn't all that cheap. Norton isn't a team player. And just seems to have been a bad fit for the studio on a personality level. And it sucks that they made a dead-end movie with him before discovering that. Just the wrong actor at the wrong time (and at the time, Norton was my dream cast for Banner, so it hit me pretty hard seeing it fizzle).

Whedon’s take is still the best take.

This scene was just perfect as was Ruffalo.
Such subtle acting in this movie by him. 3:23 chills

Too bad the direction took a hard left after this
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 10/8/2019, 4:47 AM
@BlackBeltJones - I just really dig the post-Ultron stuff the best. In Ragnarok, we don't get to see Banner as the guy who "can handle the trip", as Norton puts it, but rather as the guy who can't. And there's not been time to play with Professor Hulk enough, but hopefully Banner will play some part of the She-Hulk show and let us really understand what's been going on with him.
nikgrid
nikgrid - 10/8/2019, 4:35 AM
Norton as Banner was perfect, Ruffalo is ok I just don't see him as Bruce Banner. Norton looked like a guy who was on the run hiding from Ross, but Ruffalo looked like he was hiding from Ross in a Mcdonalds. :)
