Jonah Hex Up for an Oscar?

Jonah Hex Up for an Oscar?

It appears that looking ugly has its advantages.

Remember the movie Jonah Hex? Yeah, I don't want to either. Out of all the issues everyone has had with this film, from the heavy metal score to Megan Fox's fake Southern Belle accent, you'd think Hollywood would have locked this critically panned film in the Vault of Shame. Never to open it again. But alas, it was not to be.

Over at the Hollywood Reporter, seven films have been announced to be in the makeup category of this year's Academy Awards.

"Alice in Wonderland and The Fighter are among the seven films that remain in the makeup competition of the 83rd Academy Awards.

The additional titles are Barney's Version, Jonah Hex, True Grit, The Way Back and The Wolfman."

Although the article focuses mainly on Alice and The Fighter (which I haven't had the opportunity to see as of yet), and these are not the final nominations, I am still perplexed as to the reasoning behind Hex still being involved.
Many fans and critics noted that the facial prosthetics actually hindered Josh Brolin's performance.

A week from this Saturday, members of the Makeup Branch at the Academy will watch ten minute clips from each film. After which, votes will be taken to determine which three will remain in the running for Best Makeup.

Keep a sharp eye out on January 25th, when all of the nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards.
