THOR: RAGNAROK Actor Karl Urban Dishes The Details On How To Get Him Back As JUDGE DREDD

After reports that the world of Judge Dredd will be coming to the small screen soon, Karl Urban offered some insight into what exactly it would get him back under the helmet in the TV series...

Back in 2012, a reboot of the Judge Dredd property became a sleeper hit for comic book and action flick fans. Simply titled DREDD, the film centered around a singular day in the life of the judges of Mega-City One. Though it wasn't a financial hit at the box office, the simplistic plot and over-the-top visuals quickly solidified the film as cult classic with fans begging for a sequel. And while it may not be a feature film or even set within the same continuity as the 2012 movie, a return to the world of Judge Dredd is planned for the future in Rebellion Productions' JUDGE DREDD: MEGA-CITY ONE

But what about the star of DREDD, Karl Urban? He's been described as the perfect interpretation of the Judge, so it makes sense for fans to clamor for his return.

Urban, busy promoting his newest foray into comic book movies, THOR: RAGNAROK, has shown interest in returning to the character in the past. It should be no surprise, then,  that the subject was brought up to him during his latest press junket. According to Urban, if the story is right, he'll be there.

Well, Rebellion, who owns the rights to Judge Dredd, are currently developing a television series called Mega-City One, and I’ve had many discussions with them about my involvement of which I am interested, and I said to them, "Listen, if you write a character that has a function and a purpose and contributes to the overall story, then I might be very interested in reprising that role." I certainly wouldn’t want to step into it and just pay lip service to the movie. There has to be some material there that warrants further exploration of that character. So the ball’s in their court.

Hopefully, this will inspire the producers and writers of JUDGE DREDD: MEGA-CITY ONE to create a series worthy of the character's name. Having Karl Urban back as Dredd would certainly scratch the itch we've all had since 2012.

Catch Karl Urban as Skurge in THOR: RAGNAROK next month.
