Justice League director Zack Snyder defined his career by bringing superheroes and epic stories to the big screen. But his next project will take him in a completely different direction as he tackles the story of the architect in Ayn Rand's
Fountainhead (h/t to

Answering a question from a fan on the app "Vero," Snyder said his next project would be an adaptation of the polarizing book, written in 1943.
Fountainhead is a novel about an architect who refuses to conform to the standards and traditions of the architectural community in 1943. Like many of Rand's works (
Atlas Shrugged, Ideal),
Fountainhead is about the virtues of individualism and personal independence. However, the novel draws criticism for its depiction of female characters and rape.
The main character, Howard Roark, was described by Rand as her perfect man. In many ways, he is one of the original
Gary Stu's.
Rand wrote a screenplay that was turned into a film starring Gary Cooper in 1949 (
The Sopranos fans will recall Tony Soprano asking "Whatever happened to Gary Cooper?" when he got upset with himself or others for not being "the strong, silent type.")
The film, if it indeed gets made, will be Snyder's first since his daughter commited suicide in early 2017, forcing him to leave
Justice League in the hands of Joss Whedon.
