JUSTICE LEAGUE: Here's Why [SPOILER] Was Cut From The Movie Despite Originally Having A Key Role
Justice League went through a lot of changes after Joss Whedon took over directing duties from Zack Snyder and it's now been revealed why one character ended up not making it into the final cut...
Justice League features a few cameos from the DC Universe but despite the fact he's shown up in the form of a Funko collectable, there was no sign of Willem Dafoe's Vulko. The character will obviously show up in Aquaman next year but him being M.I.A. was surprising considering the fact he's talked about starring in the DC movie multiple times and was announced as being part of the cast last year.
Talking in a recent interview about why Vulko didn't make an appearance of any sort, Justice League star Jason Momoa explained: "There just wasn’t enough time in this movie." That's hardly a surprise when Whedon's cut runs under two hours and the actor went on to explain what we would have seen from the character had he ultimately made his presence felt when Arthur Curry pays a visit to Atlantis.
"Vulko’s his connection to Atlantis," Momoa tells Gamespot. "I think what Zack [Snyder] and I did, we were kind of trying to establish that he was taken down there as a boy, and he was an outcast, he was a half-breed, and he was built up as a young boy, because he was fed all these ideas by Vulko — that he was the rightful king. And he gets down there, and he’s a half breed, he’s impure, and I’m just made to feel like I’m this disease. So after that, I was like, ‘[frick] you, [frick] you, I’m on my own."
In Justice League, it appears as if Aquaman has never actually visited Atlantis so it seems this plot thread was cut and that it will instead be touched on in the character's solo outing next year. Something like this needs space to breathe so it could be a decision made for all the right reasons but it's hard not to wonder what else may have ended up on the cutting room floor! What do you think?
