Lea Thompson Once Again Shows Interest In Making A New HOWARD THE DUCK Movie With Marvel
Could Howard the Duck get a shot at redemption on the big screen? Well, that's what star Lea Thompson hopes as she once again expresses her desire to make a new movie about Marvel's anthropomorphic duck...
When you see a list of the worst comic book movies ever, you’ll often find the 1986 Howard the Duck film among the many disasters, so it’s no surprise there has been no other attempt at giving the Marvel character his own film.
However, if Back to the Future star Lea Thompson had her way, Marvel Studios would do more than give the intelligent duck a cameo appearance, as she recently said she wanted to pitch a new Howard the Duck movie. Now, the Year of Spectacular Men director has reiterated her desire while appearing at last night's Saturn Awards.
“I don’t know, but I’m trying to get it done,” Thompson told Syfy Wire. “But I don’t know, we’ll see, we’ll see… I’m trying.”
Thompson also went on to explain why she believes now would be a great time to give the anthropomorphic animal another solo movie.
“When we made Howard the Duck there wasn’t the CGI, there wasn’t the script, there wasn’t the Marvel machine behind it. And I think they have a slight appetite for it, since they’re drawing him for Guardians of the Galaxy.”
It may seem odd for Thompson to discuss the property like this after starring in the 1986 disaster, but the actress and director has a record of embracing her connection to the character, even lending her likeness to a recent Howard the Duck comic.
Still, whether this means her past ties will help get a new movie made, remains to be see.
