Marvel's Phase 4 Plans May Include Big-Screen Outings For NOVA, YOUNG/DARK AVENGERS And More

Some possible details on Marvel Studios' plans for Phase 4 have come to light, and it looks like Kevin Feige and co. may be looking to finally get that Nova movie off the ground. More past the jump...

We weren't expecting to learn anything of Marvel's Phase 4 plans until after Spider-Man: Far From Home (most likely either SDCC or D23), but thanks to some leaked info from a well placed source, we may now have a much better idea of what the studio has in store.

During an interview with The Independent (via JoBlo), insider Roger Wardell painted an intriguing picture of the MCU's future, sharing new details on the likes of Black Widow and Black Panther 2, as well as potential projects that still haven't been officially announced.

We'll have to take all of this as rumor for now, but it is worth noting that Wardell has leaked quite a few things in the past that turned out to be on the money.

We know that cameras are already rolling on the solo Black Widow movie, but we may have some very interesting details on one of the supporting characters.

According to Wardell, Fighting With my Family star Florence Pugh is indeed playing Yelena Belova, who takes up the mantle of Black Widow in the comics. This would make a lot of sense, and may signify that Pugh is going to take over from Scarlett Johansson as Widow in The MCU moving forward.

Black Panther 2

It's been a while since we had any updates on Marvel's plans for the sequel to Ryan Coogler's Academy Award-nominated Black Panther, but we may now know the identity of a new character who could turn out to be the main villain.

Apparently, Black Panther 2 will feature Queen Divine Justice, whose introduction will plunge Wakanda into political upheaval.

In the comics, Ce'Athauna Asira Davin was a princess of the Jabari Tribe that was raised in America, unaware of her true heritage. She eventually returns to Wakanda and joins the Dora Milaje, but when her lineage comes to light, trouble brews between the Jabari and T'Challa's people.

Nova

A Nova movie has been rumored to be in the works for quite a while now, but Wardell reckons Marvel is finally preparing to get things moving.

No other details are provided, but the Nova Corps being decimated by Thanos (off-screen) in Avengers: Infinity War paves the way for Richard Rider's introduction as the last living member, seeking justice for his fallen family and friends.

The Future Of The Avengers

No specific details are provided on Marvel's plans for the next incarnation of Earth's Mightiest Heroes after the events of Endgame, but Wardell mentions that the studio is looking at Young Avengers, New Avengers, and Dark Avengers.

As it stands, a new team of younger heroes coming together makes the most sense, and we even have a few potential recruits in the likes of Clint Barton's daughter Lila and Morgan Stark. Still, the prospect of a Dark Avengers team is by far the most exciting.

Doctor Strange 2, Eternals, Shang-Chi, GOTG Vol. 3

All of the above are also brought up, but Wardell doesn't really add much that we didn't already know. He does confirm that production is expected to get underway on a sequel to Doctor Strange very soon, with director Scott Derrickson co-writing the film with C. Robert Cargill. He also mentions that casting for the Shang-Chi movie should get underway in the next few weeks.

If Florence Pugh is indeed playing Yelena Belova, they can totally make a Black Widow trilogy.

@WakandanQueen - that would be an interesting way to handle a trilogy— baton pass in the first movie/in between the first and second, and then have the successor take the lead in the next two movies.

I’d be down for that

@WakandanQueen - I bet she's a clone. She looks very similar to Scarlett.

Isn't the plot you list for Black Panther 2 the same as the original Black Panther except with a female antagonist? They'll get my money either way, but it does seem lazy.

I also read somewhere that the plan for phase 4/5/6 was to have fairly separate Earth and Cosmic story arcs with a separate big bad for each, with the Earth one being Norman Osborne (who will kind of get mentioned in Far From Home). I don't recall the cosmic one.

@tugboy - I dont think the cosmic one was mentioned but I'd hope they are moving towards Galactus

I hope they dont go too D-listy with the future Avengers movies.

@Ryguy88 - agree. Thor and Hulk should be prominent in Phase 4, and I think most of us would much prefer so see the raw, unleashed power of Hulk over what we saw in Emdgame. I also hope Hawkeye, Ant-Man and Wasp are in the mix.

@GeneralZod - I really hope we get to see a solo Hulk movie again. With Leader & the Riot Squad or the U-Foes as villains.

@TyrantBossMedia - it's kinda sad to think that we will likely never see all of the best Marvel characters in the MCU at the same time.

@Ryguy88 -

A shame (with the way the narrative is currently) that this will never happen...

@soberchimera - Wolverine vs. Hulk is my solution to bring Wolverine into the MCU. Adapt big chunks of Hulk #181 and the animated Hulk vs. Wolverine feature. Wolverine could be a new operative for Canada’s Department H....stalking Hulk who has appeared in the Canadian wilds.

But this happens AFTER Shuri’s attempt to fix Hulk’s arm results in him going berserk and rampages his way from her new lab at the Oakland facility mentioned in BP.
