GODZILLA VS. KONG Producer Comments On The Longevity Of The Franchise; Could It Continue Past 2020?

With Godzilla: King of the Monsters hitting theaters in May, the MonsterVerse has become an unlikely but successful blockbuster franchise. Could it continue past Godzilla vs. Kong? More past the jump...

The MonsterVerse has always seemed limited in its timeframe and what the properties it encompasses are able to do. With Godzilla: King of the Monsters pulling out all the stops within the kaiju side of the equation, Godzilla vs. Kong has been viewed by many the final stop for the franchise.

With no announced plans following that movie up to this point, it was assumed this was the case.

Talking to Toho Kingdom, MonsterVerse producer Alex Garcia suggested otherwise, suggesting that they're taking a one at a time approach. Rather than annoucing a whole phase of films prematurely, the producer is willing to see what works and what doesn't going forward.

When asked if it if there could be movies post-2020 he had this to say:

We take it one movie at a time. We're working with Adam Winguard, working toward Godzilla va. Kong, but the right now the focus is all on [Godzilla 2] . . . It's one brick at a time. There's obviously a goal of what we want the whole thing to look like, but each piece has to be as good as it can be. Could there be? Yeah, that's the hope if the movies turn out really well.
