GODZILLA VS. KONG May "Come Out Later" Due To The Underperformance Of KING OF THE MONSTERS

With Godzilla: King of the Monsters underwhelming at the box office, in addition to its mixed-to-negative reviews, Legendary is hoping to strategically avoid another disaster with Godzilla Vs. Kong . . .

The Monsterverse has been kicking for a while now, and since 2014, everything seemed to be going right for the budding cinematic universe. This was until Godzilla: King of the Monsters was panned by critics, with the overcrowded box office bloodbath not doing the sequel any favors. The sequel, which impressed during its marketing, will ultimately lose money for studio. Warner Bros. and Legendary are now trying to avoid another underperformance with next year's Godzilla Vs. Kong.

During a PGA conference, Warner Bros. boss Toby Emmerich went on the record regarding the status of next year's monster brawl saying:

[Godzilla Vs. Kong] will deliver for fans in the way they were looking for [in Godzilla: King of the Monsters] . . . It might come out later in the year, so we can deliver an A+ movie.

If a move does happen, which it should, Warner Bros. would be allowing for more breathing room in between installments, in addition to giving more time to ensure a quality feature. Hopefully Adam Wingard's Godzilla Vs. Kong delivers when the film hits theaters in 2020.
