END OF YEAR POLL: Who Was The Best CBM Director Of 2012?

Well, this should be interesting! In another of our End of Year Poll's, we now want to know which director most impressed you in 2012. Was it Christopher Nolan? Joss Whedon? Marc Webb? Or did the likes of Josh Trank and Sam Mendes steal the spotlight? Here's your chance to decide...

It wasn't just big name director like Christopher Nolan and Joss Whedon who impressed this year, which is why you will also find the likes of Josh Trank and Peter Travis below (the fact that their low budget blockbusters didn't hit $1 billion is certainly no indication of the quality of their movies). So, which of the eight listed below impressed you the most this year? Was it Marc Webb's reboot of Spider-Man? Sam Mendes' incredible return to form for 007? Well, here's your chance to decide!

Josh Trank (Chronicle)

Joss Whedon (Marvel's The Avengers)

Sir Ridley Scott (Prometheus)

Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man)

Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Rises)

Pete Travis (DREDD)

Sam Mendes (Skyfall)

Peter Jackson (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey)

What I don't understand is how are Peter Jackson, Sam Mendes and Ridley Scott consider 'CBM Directors'.

Trank is borderline case: the movie was not was on a comic-book, but it was very comic-book-ish.

"It obviously should be Nolan or Mendes (not sure how Skyfall is a CBM though), but i wouldn't be surprised if Whedon won on this website."

Lol. You criticize when you are probably the worst kind of a fanboy.

I'd give it to Whedon, he wrote and directed his flick, with an insane amount of weight on his shoulders he delivered one of the highest grossing movies ever. It was also his first big movie, and he's a ginger, guys got a lot going against him

@TheYoungMan

I forgive you because that was funny. ;)

What I meant is that you can't say 'obviously' and then accuse others of voting for their preference without logic.

CHRONICLE...PART 2 WOULD BE GOOD IF THEY DID A CONTINUATION RATHER THAN RE DOING THE SAME STORY AGAIN..I HEARD A BRILLIANT SCRIPT WAS DONE FAVORING AN EVOLUTION OF CHARACTERS BUT IT WAS OPTED BY THE STUDIOS TO DO THE FIRST ONE AGAIN IN A SECOND MOVIE..

As much as I love Chris Nolan's work and as much as I love Joss Whedon's work my vote goes to Sam Mendes. Skyfall was easily the best and best done film of the year.

I vote Whedon because he deserves it...but I look forward to Nolanites mass voting to get Nolan to win.

AVENGERS......YES DARKNIGHT WAS REALLY GOOD. BUT CMON..ALL THOSE SUPERHERO FRANCHISES TOGETHER IN ONE MOVIE AND WEDON MADE IT WORK, THAT IS A TRUE FEAT.

tdkr was better directed by far avengers just did better with what it wanted to accomplish than TDKR did

but directing wise from cinematography,effects,performances,editing,themes,etc.

nolan easily wins that

even though it wasn't really a cbm, i gotta go with Mendes. Skyfall was the best movie of the year

I'd say both Whedon and Jackson at the top spot, but since it's CBM i'll go with Whedon.
Yet i don't see why half of them are "CBM", needed a better term.

With the likes of Mendes, Trank, and Jackson around, Rian Johnson isn't in this? :(

I'll go with Mendes or Trank, though. As much as I love both Nolan and Whedon, I'm just feeling like rooting for either of those two. They showed something...different. Sure, The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises were special, but there's just that something unexplainable I'm feeling about those two.

Jolt17 - 12/19/2012, 7:59 AM
If Rian Johnson was included in the list, I'd be a lot more certain about my decision.

Then again, I think Mendes and Jackson were included in this list because their movies were based on books, while Chronicle dealt with a theme and concept commonly found in comic books. That should make it fair, I believe.

not sure you understand what a comic book movie is from looking at this poll (skyfall, hobbit, chronicle, prometheus?). you should of simply said best director of the year if you wanted to include them. imo it comes down to: Tarantino, Wright, Whedon, Affleck, and Bigelow.

Whedon FTW, with Trank and Travis on second place...

everything in TDKR had a "lets get this shit over with, I have better things to do" attitude by Nolan. the lazy script, the plotholes, and letting marion cotillard's razzie level death scene make it to the final product are proof of that. Webb should limit himself to cute romantic comedies, and the other 3 are not comic book movies.
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 12/19/2012, 8:03 AM
Pete Travis certainly needs some love, too.

The Amazing Spider-Man was great, in my opinion, yet I won't vote for Webb this time, because there certainly were a lot of things that were lacking in the movie that disallowed Webb from showing much of his charm like he did with (5oo) Days of Summer.

Wait, where's Neveldine/Taylor? They should be the absolute winner this time.

Yeah, I've been hanging around this site for awhile...

As far as doing what they could for the money available, Chronicle was the best Super Hero effort of the year. Truely visionary.

Okay, I'll be serious for a second...

I've only seen two of these movies so far, (The Avengers and TASM,), so, by default, I would have to vote Whedon. That being said, I'm not going to cast my vote in the poll because it's a little too biased and not informed or objective enough.

@Cypher: I'm with you about the cards. The second one is more meaningful. The first just states what is already common knowledge. The first makes me laugh more, though....
