I saw the original film popping up in my Netflix recommendations recently, so I figured we must be nearing some news or the premiere of this project.

I wouldn’t have minded moving on from Gelflings, since they were the least appealing of the puppets from the original (being a little too situated in the uncanny valley), but the shots do look great and I’m down for a return to this world.

I'm really looking forward to this, but I have to admit I would prefer a sequel about Kira & Jen rebuilding Gelfling society. With a prequel, you immediately face two glaring obstacles: 1) Gelfling culture will never be able to match whatever the audience imagined from ruins in the first movie, and 2) we already know the rebellion is doomed and that Gelfling society will be destroyed by the Skeksis.

@Omegacron - I was so glad to hear that they are featuring the Skeksis in this. Hopefully the mystics too. The duality of the two races was compelling and deserves more fleshing out. I'd imagine they could come up with dozens of cool new stories to tell about the years before the great conjunction occurred. I found the Gelflings the least interesting part of the original film so I'm happy they aren't the only characters that will be focused on. Maybe Augra will pop up also.

@JizzerTron - From what I've read, it takes place a few centuries after the Crystal was broken, and DOES indeed feature both the Skeksis and the Uru. The plot will supposedly be about the prophecy that a Gelfling will fix the Crystal, thus beginning the Skeksis goal of destroying all Gelflings.

Tool and the dark crystal. What a day!

@Macdaddysamson - they both took about the same amount of time to release their follow ups lol

I kid I kid. TooL is my all time favorite band. Been waiting for more TooL for a long time. Hopefully it's more like Lateralus and less like 10,000 Days. Took me a long time to warm up to Days and I still only like it, where I absolutely LOVE the previous albums.

As for Dark Crystal, I've never seen the original. I know it's a classic but I'm not big on puppet movies.

@PTM - if you like fantasy movies, you should definitely watch it. The creature effects are so good, you often forget they're puppets. And actually, a lot of them - like the Skeksis & Uru - aren't even puppets. Worst case, you waste a couple of hours. Best case, you experience something awesome.
